Faults of the Rifle that Disrupt Accuracy

Once again, taken from the Soviet Operating Instructions Manual.

115. Typical faults that disrupt the accuracy of the rifle:
a) The front sight post is bent, broken, or its top is pitted.
b) The rear sight slider is bent or distorted.
c) The barrel is touching the side of the forearm cap.*
d) The lands at the muzzle of the barrel are damaged.
e) The recoil lug screw and tang screw are tightened unequally.
f) Deterioration of the barrel bore, especially at the muzzle, wear of the lands, corrosion, pitting and scratches; loose bayonet, and cleaning rod that jiggles.

* I hadn't checked for this!

And.. In most cases the loose nut at the back of the rifle... pulling the trigger.

A cleaning rod that jiggles. I have that on my 91/30. That sucks, I really cannot do anything about it. It lays so loosely in the forearm.

You can change out the nut.

I don't think it is the nut with the problem... The groove on the stock is just oversized I believe. The loose front barrel band doesn't help neither.

Would it help if you just took out the cleaning rod before you set out to shoot, sh4dow? It's not like it provides structural integrity or anything.

Yep, you could do that, or shim the nut, or replace it and shim it...

i don't think it can effect accuracy anyway. it's not touching the barrel at all.

my m44 barrel doesnt have a front sight, so that cant mess me up, no bayonet or bayonet lug, and no rear sights. the muzzle is a little banged up though, but only on the side no near the hole

If it wobbles when fired, it could effect the harmonics.

Buy another 91/30 with a tight cleaning rod.
(Sorry! This was the Mosinitis talking.)

How do you get this nut tightened?
After reading some of these posts (ie Ammo can opening thread) I can say I think we are all nuts! But what a GREAT bunch!

In the case of a Mosin Nagant... A pint of Stoli?

For M1... Maybe Jack Daniels...

For Enfield (British)... 30 year old Glenlevit.

Wish I had an Enfield, just for tightening the nut.;-)

question when you tighten the cleaning rod is it tight to the point it wont turn anymore? If so it isnt the nut.. if your barrel bands are loose it will allow it to wiggle a bit but I have never seen or shot a mosin that the cleaning rod affected its accuracy!!If you feel it is just take it out
