clay piegon shells

what brand of shells and shot size do you use for clay piegons, i went today with winchester xx target loads 2 3/4inch 8shot and didnt do so well..is that not the right ammo or did i just have an off day?

What I have learned...If you are not shooting a TRAP grade shotgun, you have to cover the bird with the barrel or you undershoot it...TRAP grade guns have a higher rear sight to bring the center of the pattern above the barrel so you keep the bird in sight....
I shoot 2-3/4 , 1-1/8 oz 7-1/2 shot Estate or Winchester cartridges.
