Lake Michigan shore fishing has been the pits all year. Winter browns were hitting pretty good but now nothing is being caught. Even the pan fish spawn was a disappointment.

So I just stay in shallow water in my little tracker boat and enjoy inshore as much as possible!
When I started deep sea fishing out of Galveston many years ago a 12 hour trip on a party boat was $15. And you could catch all the snapper and kingfish you wanted. Now the price is up to $85 and you can only bring home a few snapper over 14 inches and two kings. With gasoline round trip from Spring, Texas to Galveston the cost of a deep sea trip is nuts. Add a few hamburgers and beer while out there and it's about $200 per person. Hmmmm How many snapper can I buy at the local Kroger or HEB for $200? Or $400 if the wife were to go as well. It's a no brainer. As much as I love being out in the Gulf of Mexico I can no longer afford it.

I love going to Corpus and fishing the cuts. I'm taking the Penn 6500 SS / Ocean City 6' on the trip we are fixing to take to see her families. Padre is still patching up. Locally, I kayak on our lake chain, With my ultralight rod. Slip right up on them. Been fair this year.

Shimano 1000/ 6lb Ugly Stick
Shimano 2000/10lb Lew's Speed stick
Shimano 4000 x 2 Ugly stick
Penn 3300/ 17 lb All Star
Penn 6500/25 lb Ocean City

Fishing...

...one of the deeper passions of my heart and mind.

And, would I love to fish in Alaska...

...maybe I can do something about realizing that goal?

Here are some ocean fishing pics. I pulled up this 68lb bat ray while I was hooping at the beginning of bug season, I thought that I had 5 or 6 bugs in the net that weighed 5 lbs each. The lobster in the picture weighed 4 1/2 lbs, tail weighed 1lb7oz. So so good!

Quite a few of the boys at work here fish after shift but no photos. Usually catch some nice Tuna and one or two other odd things.

Can anyone identify the shark type thingy in the picture spotted recently.

The whales appeared yesterday for a couple of hours.

Deep sea fishing offshore Cote d'Ivoire water depth approx 3600feet.

Well I fish mostly for crappie and hybrid bluegill in my pond and walleye and stripers and wipers in the lakes . Waiting on the water to warm up I have only managed to catch 1 18" crappie and a few blues out of my mud hole so far this year but that will change.

useta...verb...past tense.

when i living in NJ i useta fish the bays and ocean with dad, or my best bud Joe, or go solo.

in the 80's i went to catch a head boat out of Fortescue, but they were filled. so i decided to rent a boat $50 a day a lot of money for a dory with a minimal hp motor.

when NJ instituted catch limits on saltwater fishing 10 per day that killed it for me. back in the day we would fill the cooler, then clean and freeze the fish.

It is almost a matter of certainty that I return from every multi-week ocean trip with at least a third of my food rations untouched, thanks to the sea. The problem for me is how to catch the perfect size for dinner as I've no way to freeze or preserve extra so, it's all about selecting the right depth.

One thing about fishing on the ocean, they are ugly but they taste great!

Sometimes it just feels good to let the monsters go if they are too big for eating... this fellow took me 40 min to land in the canoe...

I fish, but it's mostly recreational lol. I would certainly not consider myself a hardcore fisherman. I get out at most 3-4 times a year, and that is just local stuff.

More time is spent shooting and 4-wheeling lol.
