Question t3 miss fire

while hunting last weekend, my tikka t3 30'06 fired without warning. i opened the bolt and the gun went off, the bolt blew back and the case ejected in the one motion. there was nothing in the vecinity of the trigger. has anybody had a similar problem or heard of any such drama with a tikka T3

Take it to a gunsmith, NOW. I wouldn't want to be around that gun for any reason. If it can't be fixed, destroy it.

What brand of ammo were you shooting, and is it a new or used rifle?

the gun is about 100 shots old. the ammo was a hand load, although that didn't cause the problem because the pin struck it pritty hard. I have spoken to the gun smith and he believes that there was a stick stuck in the action. the stick jamed the hammer back and when the bolt was opened the stick got crushed and the firing pin slamed forward.

Well, I hope that turns out to be the case.

That is very scary, i had a slamfire with my gf's dads savage a couple weeks ago and it scared the living sh*t out of me....the gun is ok though the firing pin was just stuck somehow. Not sure about your t3 but i would definitely have it check out by a professional.
