Copper Jackets

What is the purpose of copper jackets on saboted bullets? I had assumed the purpose of copper jackets was to prevent leading of the bore, but to be honest, I guess I really don't know what the purpose of jacketing is. Anyone willing to share some insight on this matter?

To keep the bullet intacked. So it dosen't desentagrate. Like any other bullet.

Just a lead bullet will work in ML's but by using a jacket it will go in deeper and not expand so much.
