Brass Receiver Cleaning

I have a Winchester Centennial "66" in a 30-30 which has several scratches on the brass receiver. Is there some way I can remove these or make it so they are less obvious and what is the best way to clean the brass itself. Thanks in advance for your help.

You can clean it with a Flitz cloth or Simichrome paste and a soft coton cloth.
As for those scratches, the only way to remove them is to polish them out. The problem with that is, the only proper way to go about it is to polish the entire side, top, bottom of the receiver. If you try to polish just the scratch you will wind up with low spots which might look just as bad, if not worse, than the scratch.

Thanks for your help. I'll probably just clean it and stay away from polishing the entire receiver.

Are you looking for the bright shiny brass finish, or are you just trying to get the muck off it?
If you want to attain and maintain the bright brass shine Brownells has a product I swear by. METAL-COAT EPOXY at Brownells

When they first came out with this stuff I used it on a color case hardened Mauser action which I had hand polished to a 600 grit. So far it has held up much better than I had expected, and so have the bright vibrant colors.
