I recall hearing about meetings before the assault weapons ban of 94 went through where some of the lawmakers were discussing which to ban. From all accounts I know, it was a matter of which looked meaner. I also read about a politician who said that she didn't know what a barrel shroud is - she thought it was something that went over the shooter's arm.

The point is that these people - the politicians - are largely clueless and need an education.

Me - I'd be much more intimidated by the SxS 10 gague - I know it will make a huge hole in me and it's easy to aim. The MAC-10 is an inaccurate bullet hose which is difficult to aim and fires a round I'm much more likely to survive being shot with.

Glockmeister-
I assume since you live closer than some of us you are keeping up on the situation. I would be interested in knowing exactly what the proposal is.

I should be able to own/operate any weapon that the local police officer is allowed to carry for duty. If I don't NEED it then neither does he.

I think Mayor Daly has proven this to be a fact.

The story as I remember is a politician had authored a AWB type gun ban bill. One of the descriptors on the list to determine banned status was a barrel shroud. Someone asked her what a shroud was; to which she replied that she had no idea. The person then proceeded to ask her if she thought that she should know what it is before she banned it? The person as I recall then explained to her that it was a safety device.

On the positive side, the vote for 1 gun-a-month failed by ONE VOTE in the Illinois House on April 10th.

Actually, from the Miller case in the 30's and the last SCOTUS "decision" if full auto machine guns are issued to LE this strengthens the case that they would be allowed access by private citizens without restriction (i.e. the "same as" portion of the orignal veridct). Maybe this will go forward depending on how the DC case goes. Dailey might be torpedoing himself (again).
