That's the whole letter EZ. Take a look at the link from the Library of Congress. That's the whole thing to my knowledge. Here's a link that the Danbury Baptists wrote to him.

There is only one God, regardless of what name you call him. Governments are ruled by people, such as Caesar. It was said render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's and render unto God that which is God's. Putting the 10 Commandments in Caesar's house was a little much.

But Jefferson only alluded to any such "Separation as being in "essence" and not a denial of faith upon anyones part. In fact the letter in it's entirety was used successfully to block many attempts to remove prayer or in fact any meantion of faith of any kind from public schools for many years, that is until the Liberal Supremes of the 60's allowed Mad Madelyn to use ONLY the paragraph pertaining to Jefferson's comment that in "essense there shall always be a wall of separation between Church and State"
My deepest apologies then. I was only looking at amendment 1 of our constitution which is pretty clear in preventing the establishment of any state endorsed religion (i.e. has the net effect of separating church and state). Unfortunately for Mad Madelyn, this same section in the amendment guarantees the right of a child or adult individually to pray in school (or anywhere else) under the "free exercise" thereof. A practical limitation on this could be that someone couldn't constantly disrupt the classroom activities with their personal prayer time and remain in that school; however, they certainly do have the right to pray.

Oh...I thought the voices only talked to me. Do you suppose they got us mixed up because of our names?

I'll talk it over with myselves too, and see what we can do about making sure the messages are coming to the right place. Things are confusing enough already, without you guys getting dragged into it...

How exactly do you "sneak" a 5280lb sculpture?

You Troys are startin' to make me nervous! LOL! I've known a few Troys, here and there, and always thought they might be listening to little voices in their heads, and now you've gone and convinced me! By the way, this post is a benchmark for me. Two thousand, two hundred, and twenty two! I like nice even numbers! Now, where were we.....

You have it brought it in during the dead of night after honest folks are mostly asleep and the bars are closed, without telling anyone you're planning to do it.

Fits my definition of 'sneak...'

I think you should take a .22 rifle or two, and go fire a 22-gun salute in honor of the milestone, Scotty.

Good idea! 22 and 22 is a perfect match! And yes, I agree, moving something in the dead of night is kinda sneaky! And I learned something new on this thread, I didn't know there were religious connotations behind his being elected to the bench. Furthering one's agenda from the bench is wrong, no matter what side you're on, or what beliefs you hold. A man in that position is there to uphold the law, not to make new ones.

In John 19:10-11 Christ tells Pilate that he would have no power except for the fact that God gave it to him.

That's actually a pretty damn fine concept that some of our public servants could take a lesson from.

I remember the line "any power to you comes from far beyond" anytime I've tried to get uppity on someone.

A lot of the trouble in the world is caused by people thinking it was God who put them in a position of power...

It was not what was meant. Not the point at all.
Bob Dylan wrote a song about the concept Troy mentioned. Totally different than what Christ was describing.
