| Senior Member ![]() | Big Tool Thats what i figured, a great student that does what is needed to do. I commend you for that. The one thing that i can tell you is that i had 25 students per class at 5 classes per week 125 students for three months i made it a point to call each and every one by name. Some may say that is relevance and others will tell you as i mention it was not a problem. That is 500 different students per year times almost 20 years. I knew them all, but now.......... LMAO i would be lucky to remember my own name....I hope in your good mannered stature he cuts you a friggin break......Good luck again my friend!...earl Last edited by Earl Easter; 05-01-2008 at 03:25 PM. I understand the frustration and you have my sympathy, especially since you were missing class from illness to begin with. Sounds like the teacher's being a jerk. But I also remember my Academy and Navy training, where the only correct reply when asked why something was undone or done wrong was, "Sir, no excuse SIR!" It was their way of getting the idea across that in the long run only results matter, and reasons are irrelevent. |

I had a professor pull something like this on me once. I was in a College Algebra class at the time and came down with a *bad* case of mono and couldn't be there. If you've ever had mono, you know what it does to you. But anyway, I missed a test, had a doctors note from the emergency room and everything. The professor refused to let me make up the test. He told me he would replace that grade with the final grade, which I knew I would fail, as I have a very hard time with math, and I knew I could have gotten a B on this particular exam because I studied like crazy. The messed up part? There was another student who missed the exam because he was in a serious roll over car accident, and the prof refused to let him make up the test too! I know making up tests is a pain in the butt to teachers, I'm studying to be one, but nonetheless, $h!t happens, cut us a little slack.

Sorry, part of college is preparing students for THE REAL WORLD. If you have an important project or task that must be completed by a certain time, try telling your boss you didn't get it done and see how much sympathy you get as he hands you your final paycheck.

Yeah, but a boss won't fire you for being sick once, or in a car accident. The real world is extremely different from college for the simple fact that college professors have this thing called the "God Complex" some times. The real world knows better 99.9% of the time. When you come across those .1% of people who do have the complex, you choose to not work with/for them. End of story. You can't choose your professors when there's only one class offered per semester.

Well If your paying for the education then there should be some respect to a good reason to why you missed getting your assignment in. You should of never called the teacher though, you should of personaly went to him/her and discussed the matter. And if they still said NO cough a few times in there direction and leave LOL |

Not necessarily. If you're paying for it, then you get to ultimately make the decision as to whether or not you're there. It's your money, make the decision.

Most teachers I know have no clue what you are refering to in this REAL WORLD. I've had teachers who were repetively late, who don't show up to classes, who don't post grades till after drop dates, etc. Who do they have to answer to?? They get by with such because students usually will not take the time to report them for every mistake they make. Homework is about the equivalent of an employer asking an employee to clean up his/her office space at the end of the day. Well I did manage to get it done but it was 15 minutes late due to illness. So now I'm basically not getting paid for the week. I think i would quit that job in THE REAL WORLD Quote:
If no one has ever made an A then it is not the students fault. Either the material is flawed or the instructor is not doing their job. I've ran across this in several classes and it always bugs me. Quote:
Yeah, I should have gone to speak with him instead of even trying to email. That would have probably kept this thread from ever existing. I should be able to talk to him in the morning. Last edited by Big Tool; 05-01-2008 at 08:35 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost | |||

From what you said Big Tool, it sounds like your teacher is right next to those slacking students(ie:late) Me, I'd take the legal documentation, assesting to the fact that you were effectively incapacitated(a sleep loosing fever sounds good to me) and were unable to make it to class, so you emailed the assignment to your teacher, to the dean. Never know maybe this teacher has done this before.

| UPDATE
I was feeling better today and made it to class. Afterwards I went and spoke to the instructor and explained everything in person and he was very understanding and said he would give me full credit for the missing assignment. I should had gone to speak with him first of all before I came on here venting. Moral of the Thread: Get things done ahead of time 1. Talk to people in person. 2. Email does a very poor job of transferring emotions and sincerity. 3. Don't sweat the small stuff. Last edited by Big Tool; 05-02-2008 at 04:11 PM. |

| Senior Member ![]() | Big Tool See that, the teacher has part of his heart left after all. Your integrity has made a superlative with the communication of understanding a problem that has been responsive with a restitution of award for your human contact with the Prof. Good luck with the remainder of the quarter, and thank you for letting us give you some advice and taking it as a true man sir.......
