Speaking of Hathcock he once spent three days setting up a shot at a female NVA officer that was torturing GI's in a camp. To try to keep it a G rating she was umm "dressing them out" if you understand what I mean. He said one GI was screaming for two days. Hathcock said it was the one shot he will always remember. He did get her.

As for women in the military. They will be on the front lines sooner or later. Remember in WWII blacks were not allowed on the front lines. Now the armed services have a lot of blacks and others. Just a matter of time.

Marine 1..."I know a former female US Army Medic from Michigan, who was there about this time. She braved enemy fire to drag a wounded GI to safety, during a fire-fight. They refused to allow her to wear the CIB (Combat Infrantrymans Badge), not to mention, I think she should have received a silver star for her heroic actions. This took place several years ago. She is currently married to a LEO friend of mine here in Michigan".

Marine 1, the reason the female medic was not allowed to wear the Combat Infantry Badge (CIB), is because Medics are awarded the Combat Medical Badge (CMB). Several years ago, a Medic was only awarded the CMB if HE was with an Infantry Unit, and under enemy fire. There were no females assigned to infantry units at that time. And I'm talking about from Viet Nam through Desert Storm. Things have changed since I retired, obviously.

As a retired veteran I take my hat off to BOTH the young men and women who serve today. On both sides of the gender line you are going to have malcontents and useless losers. But all these people have sworn to uphold and defend US , to all those in harms way, especially those who act selflessly in the face of danger my heart and pride in you knows no bounds, you are America's BEST! You have my support, my respect, and my prayers in all that you do and have done when your country called. God Bless you and all whom you love. Were it only not to have fallen to you, old vets like me were supposed to have made this unnecessary. Salute!

Thanks for the information....I believe (but nothing in stone to date)... she was "assigned-attached" to this grunt unit, at the time the incident occured. I will ask my LEO Bud...and see if this is so? If it is....she deserves the CIB. If not, and stumbled into the ground action...then I will agree with your statement. Fair, enough?

If she is a Medic, female or male, she will not get the CIB. That is awarded to Infantrymen...Medics are awarded the CMB. I'm talking from experience. Them's the rules. And they ain't changed since the inception of the CMB in WWII.
