Try Oklahoma, the tornado capital of the world!

There are areas here, where you don't really have to worry about twisters. The area we live in never gets hit, though they come through to the north and south of us. If you find the right spot, you're fine. Most new homes around here don't even have storm shelters, as they're considered a waste of time. The only thing that bothers me, is the gullywashers. Every time we get one, I have to repair the drive.

You got it right on the Midwest storms...

I can handle northwestern snow, ice and cold weather better than tornadoes.

Being stationed for six years in Minot, North Dakota, and living through some serious tornadoes the spring/summer I left, made for a grateful feeling that I was being re-stationed. I also experienced the same weather in Abilene, Texas.

Now, I gotta say that the people in those areas were/are awesome, as well as the excellent hunting and fishing, but the darn high winds and tornadoes are not so great.

Give me the cold, snow and ice...instead of the tornadoes any day.

Heck, LTS, we all get cold, ice and snow, ALONG with the high winds and turnaders! How can you stand missin' out on all the fun? We get the most spectacular lightning displays in the world! Non-stop, rumbling, crrashing, glowing, unbelievable lightning storms! You're depriving yourself of way too much fun!

Oh yea, there's a lot of excitement in those storms...!

My last week in Minot, ND included an evening spent in the most spectacular lightning scene I've ever seen or felt...including all the rain.

The storm was so intense (lightning/thunder), and the rain so plentiful, that my vehicle got flooded out driving through the streets.

I spent the entire night in my vehicle, and got to see the near constant lightning dance through the sky, as well as listen to the clashing bangs of associated thunder. I've never seen or experienced anything like it, before or since.

I had a somewhat similar experience in Texas, but not so dramatic. I was in awe at the brilliance of such weather displays.

Also, just a couple of years ago, I was in Minneapolis, MN when those serious micro-burst winds came ripping through that area. It was like a giant lawn mower and leaf blower was coming through town. Thousands of trees were de-limbed and uprooted like they were flower plantings. I was in a restaurant at the time and suddenly there was debris blowing by the windows in powerful horizontal gusts. ...good thing for the emergency preparedness items on hand, especially the generators, cause they were used to sustain our home and help a couple others make it through the after-effects of the storm.

You just ain't lived until you've "chased" a few tornadoes! I used to do it alot back in my younger years in Oklahoma. What sucks is when you are chasing an F-4 or F-5 and it's heading straight for a populated are. That's when the fun stops and the chase ends.

I wish y'all could send some rain down this way! We got a little drizzle late Saturday - barely wet the ground!

Big Dog, I'd be more'n happy to send some your way! In the last two months, my rain gauge has measured fourteen inches. My pond has overflowed, about every other storm. It's done the countryside a world of good, but I for one want a bit of sunshine, and t-shirt weather. Sorry to hear things are parched out your way. It'll change, just gotta wait on the whims of Mother Nature.

We got some quarter inch hail two nights ago in Texas. You should of seen me out in it with my bicycle helmet on, placing rugs and moving blankets on the cars. But even funnier was the next door neighbor doing it with out head covering! I would suspect weather modification over global warming.
