GREAT rifle!!

The heavy octagon barrel model was the one I used for the SASS Side Match Rifle Shoots. VERY accurate.

Hey jack weren't you in WA before too? Its quite a trip to TX, and I vowed never to return because it was so hot and nasty. But if I had a free trip back there, them I might consider it. I have some funds on hold in a secure loan, and this month is my last payment. I will then get my funds returned and I have been planning a .357 lever gun. Is there a problem also shooting the .38 spl out of them as well? How much better is ballistics, like fps and range compared to a revolver with a 4 or 6 inch barrel?

I saw an article on the Uberti copy of the Colt Lightning .357 & .45 Colt Pump carbine.

That looks like a beautiful weapon that could also be used in Cowboy competitions along with the Lever Actions.

i got mine back in 95 or so and its my all time favorite gun! extremely fun to shoot and unbelievably accurate at ranges out to 100yrds. but mine is an older one and if ya get one and something breaks you better become a machinist cause ya cant get parts! im sure the new pumas have a much better parts supply. mine also had trouble shooting the 38spl's...well feeding them i mean. but when i loaded some heavier bullets in 38spl cases the extra weight made them feed just fine. i loaded 180gr bullets in the 38 cases. the 357 lever guns price has gone through the roof though! i bought mine for 250 bucks back in the day and now i saw a comparable puma for almost 900!!!!! but i hate to say it if mine got stolen or destroyed id save to buy a 900 dollar one! great rifle and more fun than should be allowed. if you dont hunt one down youll never forgive yourself.

I found a used one with the Puma medallion on the left side of the receiver in decent shape for $375 or $395, can't remember. I know the dealer and I'm pretty sure he will work with me on the price a little. What is a fair price for one of these?

I've got a Puma in .45 Colt that the .357 would look great next to in the gun cabinet. What do you all think?

The MSRP on a new one is only $613, I think thats a 2009 MSRP though, so maybe just a little more now.

i have a browning .357, and it's fun to shoot.... i load "for rifle only" loads and get much higher velocities than you can get from a handgun....don't use wadcutters, they will not feed....

Ammo concern: the EMF Hartford 1892 instructions say no FMJ ammo. Are round nose lead cartridges going to be ok, both in terms of safety and in feeding?

Just checked Rossi's website. The rifle now lists for $641. This rifle is not something that I've been looking for. It just caught my eye while I was in there, so I can't justify spending $600+ on something I don't "need." If he'll take $350 for it, I might do it--upon further inspection of course, I just gave it a quick once over today when I was in there. Not only would I not pay $600+ for one but the new ones have that ugly safety on top of the receiver. Ugh. The one I was looking at is pre-safety, as is the .45 Colt that I have.

I might ride back down in a couple days and if he still has it, I'll check it out better--and take some money with me, just in case.

You could probably get one for a hundred dollars less than the MSRP, but if the new style is something you don't like, I could definately see passing on it. I don't like safetys on lever guns either. Hey I just noticed your from KY too, whereabouts? I live near Hazard down in the southeast part of the state.

I live in Northern KY. Independence to be specific. Its about 15 miles or so south of Cincinnati. I used to ride quads down in Harlan and Belle counties. We would park the trucks in Pathfork and take off from there.

As for the safeties, I would be okay with a safety just not the style that the new ones have. It sits right up on top of the receiver, just not pretty whatsoever. And like I said, if it was a gun that I have been looking for, I may order a new one and deal with the safety. But it is not exactly on my list, it just kinda caught my eye.

Yeah we've got great places to ride, you probably drove nearly right by my house on the way to Harlan County, I actually live in Leslie County. I like lever guns too, not the first guns on my list either, but my local shop has a cimmaron large loop 92 I like, been giving it a preety good look.
