| Runnin' With The Big Dogs ![]() | Senators Warn Global Warming Bill Could Spike Gas $1.50 to $5 a Gallon...
Worried about gas prices hitting $4 a gallon and beyond? Imagine if they were $6, $7 or even $8 a gallon. Those levels are a certain possibility should Congress pass cap-and-trade legislation, which could face a vote in early June. Senators Warn Bill Could Spike Gas $1.50 to $5 a Gallon |

| Warning to reality
Our senators should, if possible, wake up to the real world of the middle class. Fuel prices are already sending the middle class into a recession causing activity of non-purchasing other goods and services. |

As long as they can pull another piece of plastic out of their pocket, they will continue to buy. What ever happened to money? It would really be bad right now if people had to stop and think "Can I afford that?". But no, out with the plastic and with (about) 22% interest, I can have it.

While we are most likely going to be paying more at the pump to do our part... what is the rest of the world doing about this problem of supposed "Global Warming"...? Frankly, this is bullsh*t. As usual, we are carrying the load because too many in politics are bowing to the U.N. ... |

The hit our economy would take by this environmental extremism (it already has taken a toll) is the reason why Bill Klinton, with Algork as his VP, would not sign onto Kyoto. Also I believe China and a few other countries were exempt from Kyoto, though I'm not positive on that.

Our congress just wants a piece of the money being ripped out of the working class peoples pockets before the oil companys get it all. It's a sad situation when we can't throw all of them out of office right now for even considering this. I'm not a smart person in regards to politics but I can tell they ain't at all for us. They ain't worth the chit we flush down our toliets !!! |

United States $3.45 155 countries surveyed between March 17 and April 1, 2008. Prices not adjusted for cost of living or exchange rates. Source: AIRINC Gas consumption Europe vs. U.S. There is some evidence Europe's high gas taxes have capped its oil consumption. Oil use in the United Kingdom has basically stayed flat from 1980 to now, while in France it's dropped 17%, according to figures from the Energy Information Administration. In the U.S., meanwhile, oil use is up 21% over the same period, although the country has added more people and seen its economy grow slightly faster. Americans have taken advantage of cheap gas prices to do other things - like buy bigger cars and bigger houses further away from city centers, said Schipper. On a per capita basis, Americans use three times more oil than Europeans, he said. That means Americans are more exposed to rising gas prices than their counterparts across the Atlantic. "Five-thousand square feet in the suburbs, that's much rarer in Europe," said Schipper, referring to big homes. "We dug our hole." ------------------------------------------- Note above where it says that high gas taxes in Europe have capped it's oil consumption. The democ-rats have for some years been advocating higher gas taxes in this country in order to cause people to drive less (not now, it's an election year), in order to placate the lunatic environs who are a major constituency of theirs. |

| Lost on "Doing our Part" ??????
I'm totally lost on the post about "rest of the world and doing our part at the pump"! How does "doing our part" have anything to do with billions in profits for a few big oil companies? Why don't big oil compaines "do their part" by reducing their profits to help the middle class? That seems rather patriotic to me. Come to think about it, why don't our elected representatives "do their part" by expanding, protecting, and granting more freedoms to the middle class? |

You're being facetious, right? Keep in mind that the Oil companies make less profit on a gallon of gas than either the state or federal tax on that same gallon. They have big profits, because the sell a hell of a lot of gallons of gas worldwide. OPEC (the arabs) is another story of course. We need to explore and develop our domestic oil reserves, including ANWR. Last edited by publius; 05-16-2008 at 10:15 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

We need refineries. Since we won't be getting one of those...we need alternatives. We need them fast... America will not last with gas that high.

I wonder how much of the oil companies' profits are made here in America. By amount of profit made by them, I don't see the need to have the price so high at the pump except to make more and more profit. If I had the only food store in town, I could charge what ever I wanted to charge and point to some country that had no food and say "Look at them, you are better off".
