I am looking at possibly picking up a six shooter here soon and was looking at some of the Rugers. I wanted either like an SP100 357 or a 45lc version of a six shooter.
Thoughts, suggestions, feedback?
Going to a gun show in a few weeks to buy a few guns and if I can squeeze it in my budget I am going to pick up a six shooter, looking to pay no more than $200ish for one. used is fine by me also.
Theres a drastic difference between the two gun. If you are looking for a self defence weapon then you want the SP100. If you want to start shooting Cowboy Action or just to have a gun to have fun with, then a Blackhawk or a Vaquero is a great start to getting into the games. There are many different games, IPSC, Defensive Pistol, Pin and Plate shoots.
Most of the Colt clones are Italian or Brazilian made. The Ruger single actions and the double action are good strong guns and as long as they haven't been Bubba-ized you'll be OK with a Ruger. The Baretta Stampede looks and feels like the Taurus, The finish on the Baretta seem to be polished a bit better. I shy away from Italian guns that don't come from an importer most of them have had work done to them, trigger job, action work of some kind, etc...,
Have fun no matter what you decide.

Well I am truly conflicted, I guess it will just come down to the better deal, if the 357 is a better deal then Ill grab it, if the 45lc is a better deal then ill grab it. If they are both great deals then my head will just explode!
tlarkin: Sir; a consideration. With Ruger you cannot go wrong. 45lc are expensive to shoot
.357's can shoot .38's.!!! .38's cannot shoot .357's; bang for your buck .357
Ruger Models; Blackhawk, SP101, GP100, .357"s!!!Barrel Length many, Blue or Stainless.
Will do what you would like for them to do. Will NOT operate to any degree of satisfaction as "Fanning gun"
Our area is a little more pricey, or I'd even have more
Follow up with what you find Thanks

You may find a Ruger "Cowboy" revolver in the $200.00 price range if you're extremly lucky. I would think that the $300 on up range would be more realistic.
If you reload, the .45 LC is no more expensive to shoot than factory .357s and probably a whole lt cheaper.
As more price information to supplement Cyrille;
I sold 2's Bisleys at the last show, 98% condition. 1 in .357 and 1 in .45 colt. I got several offers to buy the .357, apparently they are harder to find. Finally parted for them for an offer of $750 cash from a dealer, which I did a little better on when I asked about credit towards a trade. The point is a decent Ruger Blackhawk is going to be a little more then the $200 you want to spend. If you find one for $200 I want to see some pics! Miracles do happen you know.

the sp101, and gp100 are good strong revolvers for the money. i consider them a good buy. for a factory single action, you will not beat a blackhawk/superblackhawk in its price range. it costs a lot of money to do better.
I just sold my old laptop and have just uder $400 for it. I want a mossy 500 tactical and a Mosin 91/30. My friend owes me $45 which I am collecting, and I got a bit of overtime coming to me. I think all in all I will have around $600+ for the gun show.
Mosin will be $130ish
Mossbergy will be $200 to $300 ish
Revolver will be $200 to $300
So, I will try to squeeze it in my budget. I am already eating cheap for the next two weeks for the gun show, so the money I save that way may help me out in the end.
That is a fine looking gun you got there. I have always wanted a revolver. It will be for shooting, and maybe a back up as home defense to my 12g shotgun. However, I am weary of firing rounds that pierce several walls. I live in the city, and need to be responsible.
I am definitely getting a Ruger. Actually, I just tonight got a gunbroker account. There are several sellers that actually live in my neck of the woods.
Tlarkin...Thanks for the reminder. You're absolutely correct about being concerned where the bullet travels before it stops moving. That handgun is kept in my basement with 9 ft tall concrete walls covered with paneling, which should keep the round from traveling outside should I encounter a perp.
NRAJOE knows best. He's the one you'd better watch out for, though.
