That sure is the truth on inspecting before you leave the dealer.

My parents had gotten me a beneli legacy for christmas. I opened it up and sure enought there was a nice crack in the forearm "sp". I sent it back to the dealer to get a replacement.

Then when i got the replacement gun the dealer briefly opened the case to show off the pretty new gun. When i got home and put it together i noticed the barrel was very skinny.

Come to find out he had ordered a 20ga instead of 12ga.

The next try he finally got it right. Moral of the story check thoroughly before you buy.

I might go shopping for a new FFL also, sounds like you're not getting much support from your FFL on this problem. You will have better luck dealing with Ruger in the future instead of going through a third party. Juct my 2c worth.

UPDATE: U.P.S. picked it up this morning and it's going Next Day Air, obviously be there tomorrow.

FWIW, she can't force her wholesaler to take it back. She did with the first one. And to be honest, they didn't have to as I'd left the store with it and I did clean it. The only reason they did that time was because someone on the wholesalers end dropped the ball and didn't call Ruger for the Call tag, so it had sat at the FFL's for a week for nothing. He took the first one back and said they weren't about to try a 3rd time, which I can understand.

As for checking it over BEFORE leaving the dealer, normally I do. This time I was more concerned with inspecting the cylinder which is where the first one was bad. The bluing on the rest of this gun, deep and lustrous, gave no sign of being the way it was. You have to tilt the gun at a specific angle to see it. But once you see it, and know it's there, it's somewhat visible from any angle. Mainly because you just know it's there.

Trust me, I'm kicking myself for just not waiting until the next day to have picked it up. Trying to rush it before my kids graduation was my mistake, I admit that.

I would just call, say " You have lost a valued customer and a fan because..." and hang up the phone. then, go buy a gun from another manufacturer. it will save you the trouble of any future problems. good luck

But I like the blued. If it's done right, and properly maintained and taken carte of, a blued firearm will look lustrous and beautiful for many, many years to come.

I especially like the deep blue ones, like the original S&W model 29's were done. Looking so think as if it's still wet ya' know.

But to be honest, that was a thought that came to mind. In fact the exact thought was, Had I just gotten it in stainless I wouldn't be going through this. But again, I just like a blued finish on certain firearms.

UPDATE:

Well I was just about to call Sturm,Ruger to check the status of my Ruger New Model Blackhawk in .45colt when low and behold the phone rang. It's Sturm, Ruger. I'd requested I get a call so I knew when to expect it to be here.

I was told it shipped today and will be at my door tomorrow. I'll save any praises or whatever for then...

Well fellow gun enthusiast, U.P.S. just dropped it off and I've inspected it. Looks great. There is one minor speck or copper colored speck under the loading gate, but I'll live with it.

But, there's a major problem. I got a New Model Blackhawk, not one of the conversion ones. So I sent it back with the one cylinder it came with. Well when I got it back today, and opened the box, it had 2 cylinders. So I call Ruger. Don't shoot the gun. Someone will call you Monday and let you know. Well I just got a call back, This GOD DAM GUN HAS TO GO BACK TO RUGER! They don't know if I got my correct cylinder or if it is timed to this/my gun.

I am so fed up I'll never buy another RUGER after this is all said and done. What, have they got a bunch of stinking immigrants that can't speak English or understand it working there or something? How hard is it to understand instructions? I sent a letter explaining what and where the problem was. Hell, I even included a picture, to show them where the problem/blemish was.

The shipping ticket that came back with the gun does say the safety was checked and the gun was test fired and it was returned with a Black Padlock and 2 cylinders. I thought maybe I got a free conversion cylinder in .45acp for my troubles.

The lady that called me I told her I wish I could make Ruger give me something for my trouble. She did ask what, I said hell, I don't know, anything. I mean I use my stimulus check to by something American and I can't and haven't even been able to enjoy it yet. And that actually this is the 2nd gun, 3rd time it'll have to go back to someone...

I am so sorry I bought a Ruger. I'm so sorry I bought this gun.

Get yourself a SAA from Cimarron. Better yet put some money down on a Colt.

This has nothing to do with the size of a factory or anything. A call tag was issued and a repair order was issued. All that had to be done was that repair order followed. Re-blue, test, check headspacing and timing, inspect then return. The repair order said nothing about including a 2nd different cylinder when returning. And if they did it as compensation, that was very cool, but to notate on the packing slip that 2 cylinders were sent back with the gun but to not notate that they were checked for proper timing and headspace, and cause me to have to send it back a 2nd time, no sooner then I get it back, that's just plain outright sloppy and very very poor quality control. Which I might add is the reason both guns ever left the facility in the condition they did in the first place. Had they been properly inspected at that time, they'd of NEVER left the facility and I'd of NEVER had to deal with this crap.

You're right I suppose I should chill. But I find it hard to because I decided to use my stimulus check and put it back into the American economy and try to do what I could and help it by buying an American product. And this is what I get/got in return. It's why many don't buy American. Because American workers, in most cases, do sloppy work and American products don't last, which is why they don't sell. I'm sorry, I hate to say that, but it is the truth.

This all falls back to QC. Someone doing their job properly. Plain and simple. Yea, Ruger normally has great product. That's why I went with Ruger to begin with. Why I'm so mad. Because I did and this is what I get for doing so. Just had to and needed to vent a little.

Just remembered this. Another tidbit of American quality and dedication. I'd called my FFL back because she'd wanted to know how long it took for me to get it back from Ruger. So I called her today and I of course told her the rest also.

She said, yea, it would seem they're not the only ones, Ruger that is, in slacking in quality control. She said she had another customer come in and order a Colt, from Colts custom department. He'd waited 3 months for a custom gun from Colt. It came in about 2 weeks ago and she said it was missing a screw. She'd said for where or to what. Something about there was one short and one long screw, and it was the long screw that was/is missing and that she'd called the custom dept. @ Colt and told them this. Mind you, this is Colts custom dept. she's dealing with. Well it took a week but the screw came. THE WRONG SCREW THAT IS... They sent the short one instead of the longer one.

So it would seem I'm not alone in my rotten luck!

Neo, Here's the problem. lol First off, the one link you provided, the one that says " online Submit Form", is strictly for online support, or so it says. Plus, I'm only allowed up to 500 characters I'd use them up and still not even be half way done. lol The other thing, if this is for or to get support. I'm getting support. They're taking care of the problem, just doing a very very horrible job at it.

I see the name Mike Fifer, but where is his email? If I use that form, he won't get it. Well I don't think he will anyhow?

I'm not sure what the best way to handle this is or who I should see handles it. If you've read the PM I sent you, you have some idea as to what I want and have to say. I just need to put it in the right words. I have a letter done, but it's 4 pages long. No ones going to read that. I mean, I think they should. I mean, I can't tell the whole story in 500 words or any amount. I have to tell it in how ever many words it takes.

And as I said in the PM I sent you. Had someone, and figure many different people could and should have caught this before it even left the building. The one who cleans the parts, preps them for finishing, no matter the finish should inspect them for blemishes. The one who does the bluing or takes them out of the machine to inspect the bluing. The one or many that does the assembly. The one who does the final inspection before final packaging. There are quite a few in my book that should have caught these 2 firearms before they even left the building. They should have never ended up in my hands.

Now since this last one did, and I did return it, the fact I've already had a problem should have warranted extra care and handling. And that's what is pissing me off the most. IT DIDN'T and I don't feel I got that extra ya' know.

I've got the weekend to figure this out and send a letter with the firearm. But I'm also keeping a copy and or make copies of it to send to the right or many right people within Ruger and ask them what they'd want for having this happen to him/them. Ask him/them what they'd of expected. Ask him/them what they want me to tell people when I speak of this experience, my first experience with Ruger? Do they want me, when I talk of this to end it with, but Ruger took care of me and more then made up for it at the end of it or at the end of it do they want me turning people away from a Ruger?

I'm not saying I can or will, but I'll give it my dam best if that's what they want or prefer? It's all up to them.
Bought a gun in flipping May, here it is July and I haven't had it in my hands for 48 hours at a time nor have I gotten to even shoot the dam thing yet! Sad state of Ruger affairs. lol Very sad.

I hate to say this but Ruger quality control has really gone down hill. They have always been one of my favorite companys in regards to producing a quality product
that far exceds its price. As of the last few years you just dont seem to consistently
get what you used to expect from a Ruger firearm. Apart from QC there seems to be
a lot of minor changes to dimensions and tolerances in regards to things like mag fit
in the 10/22 and Mini-14/30. A rifle produced 10 yrs. ago and a new production piece
often will not reliably fit/feed mags with each other, something untolerable in such a iconic platform. I hope they work thru whatever difficulties / changes they have going on since Bill Sr. 's passing cause it truly pains me to say anything negative about a company that has given us so many great firearms ( and memories of using them).

DAM DAM DAM. I HAD IT PERFECT. I HAD IT ALL DOWN TO TELL THE CEO, THROUGH THE TELL THE CEO AT RUGER LINK. I WANTED TO COPY IT. BUT OF COURSE I HIT THE WRONG BUTTON, THINK IT WAS THE SPACE BAR AND IT SUBMITTED IT. DAM DAM DAM.

i DIDN'T GET TO SIGN IT OR ANYTHING. I WAS PRETTY MUCH DONE AND I DID GET TO OR MAKE SURE TO INCLUDE MY REPAIR ORDER NUMBER. 2 TIMES AT THAT. SO HOPEFULLY THE CEO WILL GET IT OR ONE OF HIS CRONIES WILL, AND THEN AFTER READING IT TELL HIM HE NEEDS TO, THEN THEY'LL LOOK ME UP VIA THAT REPAIR ORDER NUMBER. I DID SAY I FEEL I DESERVE AND WANT TO BE COMPENSATED AND NOT WITH SOME STUPID HAT OR T-SHIRT. LMAO

SO EVEN THOUGH I ACCIDENTALLY AND PREMATURELY SENT IT, I GOT MY MESSAGE AND POINT ACROSS. THE BALLS IN THEIR COURT NOW. WHAT THEY DO WITH IT WILL DETERMINE WHETHER OR NOT I EVER BUY ANOTHER RUGER AND OR WHETHER OR NOT I SAY GOOD OR BAD ABOUT THEM WHEN I SPEAK OF THIS IN THE FUTURE.

I SAID WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO SAY WHEN I TALK WITH PEOPLE ABOUT THIS AND IT WILL BE TALKED ABOUT. DO YOU WANT ME TO SAY, RUGER WENT ABOVE AND BEYOND TO MAKE THIS RIGHT? OR, DO YOU WANT ME TO TELL PEOPLE I TALK TO ABOUT THIS TO NOT BUY A RUGER AND TO BUY SOMETHING ELSE BECAUSE THEIR QUALITY CONTROL IS HORRIBLE...

DAM, I HATE THE FACT I DIDN'T FINISH IT 100%. LOL OH WELL. CAN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT NOW...
