OH MY!!!..... It's the Gas Price Thread

After dropping to $122 a barrel, oil was up around $5.50 a barrel yesterday, and is up almost $6.30 today. This is insane.....

Coming soon to a city near you this summer...CIVIL UNREST AND RIOTS.

I know I've gone "green" in gasoline usage sort of. I stop and think about the best route and how many stops involved and if I really really need to go today.

www.GlobalWarmingCarbonFootprints.com is the answer.

G-w-w-w-a-a-a-a-r-r-p! Sound of projectile vomiting

as the economy takes another hit for the benefit of big oil
and the failure of government planning for decades.

Another round of layoffs, home foreclosures, bankruptices,
broken marriages, and the closure of more and more retail
outlets.

The only reason this is happening is because the government, in all its wisdom, has seen it fit to make it illegal to compete with already established oil companies. Their near monopoly (as one can attest if one has attented the most basic of economics courses) means that they can charge high prices and reap huge profits, at the expense of the consumer.

I wholeheartedly agree with you. Some anti-trust laws need to be Installed, but is this possible with foreign industry?

It's only a foreign industry because Americans aren't allowed to compete, because of American laws.

Hmmm...what a coincidence.

There's a large scale Marines training/exercise going on in Indianapolis for the next couple of weeks...where US troops are learning more about/practicing how to handle wide scale civil unrest, urban warfare/assault, etc...

Retired USAF...and I know that the men/women in blue that I served with would strongly uphold their oath to defend the US against enemies foreign and domestic.

Sometimes I think we forget about the possibility and reality of the enemies domestic part...

Take the news story for what it's worth and file it away, we'll see where it all fits in later down the road.

*****

The "story" is actually a news report from a local media outlet in Indianapolis covering the event as it takes place...one of several such "live" coverages of the event that can be found on the net.

... that's my thought, training for a "forward deployment"... not a domestic action.

Training exercise...I spent years as a logistics planner for military training and real world exercises, and the pattern in predictably sure...train and then execute the mission.

Larry,
Let's hope it's nothing more than training for a "forward deployment"....cause the other option is horrendous.

*****

Take a look at foreign media about the civil unrest in Europe over sky rocketing gas prices, and the negative impact that increase is causing, and you'll see some of the puzzle coming together...

We used to call them EEFIs in the military, and the same info gathering works in the civilian world.

... my guess is that the Marines would not follow that order.

I've actually been given a lawful order that would have resulted in casualties... I knew enough to disregard it. I am sure they would do the same.

I too hope, and pray, that those who receive such an order will be as wise and patriotic as you...however, recent events in the US during crisis showed otherwise...Katrina as just one example.

Thanks

AH,
More pieces of the puzzle...good to see there are others watching this come together as well, and making needed preparations.
