Ruger Mark III Target

Just picked up the first .22 pistol I have ever owned and the first .22 rimmie of any sort in the last 20 years. I am so impressed with this pistol!!! The first shot I ever took with it was at a target 50' away and I put the bullet solidly in the red. The rest of the clip wasn't far behind, probably a 5" group. Not bad for the first 10 rounds out of the box. I continued moving the target backward even out to 100' and was consistently finding the circle... On the bench, two handed, and one handed. $500 or so for a .22 isn't cheap but I'm sure not complaining about it now.

We have a stupid law here in The People's Republic of California that you can only buy one handgun every 30 days. Well that's generally not an inconvenience outside of the fact I feel it is a violation of my 2nd amendment rights... but I have just recently got back into shooting and after waiting 30 days after getting my .45 I wanted another pistol and was torn between getting this .22 and getting a poly-style 9mm or .40. I am sure glad I made the choice I did, I can shoot till I'll blue in the face with the .22 and it only costs $10!

Anyway, what an awesome gun... gonna go shoot some more today.

Congrats on the new Ruger. I love mine, except when it comes time to disassemble / reassemble. Be sure to follow the instructions exactly.
Great shooter.

Thanks, disassembly does look intimidating for sure. And yes, I am just thrilled with how accurate it is. It's better than I am that's for sure. On a side note I let my GF shoot it today, first time in her 45 year life she's fired a gun... she hit the red at 50' on her first shot! She ended up with 7/10 on the paper, not bad at all considering.

You have made an excellent buy . . .

just keep it clean and lightly lubricated.

There are a wide variety of aftermarket grips out there and
some people do go for aftermarket triggers. You might want to
check out these options.

Good luck and good shooting.

Great choice in the Ruger MK III. I can't get too warmed up over any plastic gun.

Here in MD we have the same 30 day rule, but you can apply for collector status and the one gun a month is waived. Still have the 7 day wait for "cooling off."

Is yours the stainless target model with the ergo grip and heavy barrel? There are other Mark III's here for less. Mine was actually $470 but after DROS and state tax it was $500 give or take a few bucks. Guns here seem to cost about the same as other places I've heard mentioned....

Here it is, Ruger's suggested retail $589

Your correct, I took mine apart to clean, and you guessed it, Went togather, but the slide will only go back half way. I guess I'll have a Gun Smith clean and put back tigather correctly. Worked great for $40.00. I had a friend sell me several guns for the same price.

I've seen the 22/45 for under $300 but not the one you got. The stainless target is pricey but it is sweet! A buddy of mine just bought one exactly like yours for about the same price you paid. I told him not to shoot mine because he would have to have one. He shot and bought! Mine is an older Mk11 Government.

I bought this same gun in 1975 for $75 new and because of a money shortage I sold it not long after. Wish I still had it. Yours doesn't have Mark 1 on it? Hmmm, I thought they had Mark 1 on them.

I'm just guessing but I would think at least $150. Maybe some others will know a lot more than I do about this.

Taking it apart is no big deal but if the little dangling dingus doesn't fit just right you gotta screw with it.

And no matter how many times you put it together in a few seconds, you never know when it'll happen, and when it does happen for some reason it keeps happening until you feel like tossing it out the window. Then after an hour of trying it just falls into place with no problem and you figure you got it wired....until it happens again.

There is a secret to doing it everytime w/o any trouble but I sold mine 20 years ago and have forgotten.

Great pistol though I wish I'd kept it.

Congrats

on a great gun. If you are intersted or feel you might want it you can find some triggers on the internet that lighten your trigger pull/travel distance.

But it sounds like you are doing just fine with a gun that is economical to shoot.

I got the Mark III Competion pistol with the slab sides. Then I put a Nikon Monarch 2.5 x 8 scope on it. OMG, you can hit flies with it with that scope on it. I love mine.
