Terrible news!

Seems that there is a shortage as of late regarding 7.62x39 ammo. The local outdoors store here, a very good one called Jax, has TONS of milsurp ammo, you name it, they have it. Usually they have tons of 7.62x39 in both Wolf and Hotshot, the Wolf is normally $4.50 for a box of 20 and the Hotshot is $5.50 for a box of 20. Went in there yesterday to get about 200 rounds and they were completely out. The lady who heads the hunting department, one of the most knowledgeable people I know when it comes to guns, said they are having a lot of trouble securing shipments of that size ammo, seems it is getting harder to find and import. I hate the idea of having to order ammo off the internet, when I can get it the same day for usually a better price when you factor in shipping, but it looks like I have little choice in the matter.

In other news, last I shot the SKS I used both Wolf and Hotshot ammo. I noticed no difference in either, shot about 80 rounds of each through. Had three incidences where the primer was hit but did not fire, two with Wolf and one with Hotshot. In the future, I'll probably stick to Wolf since it is cheaper and doesn't shoot much worse.

Couldn't ever find Golden Tiger here, just the Wolf and Hotshot, when/if I start buying online I'll probably try a bunch out. There is still one large gunstore here I can try out, but they were closed today.

For what its worth, while I've never bought there, I know several people who deal with Weidners regularly. I've heard no complaints.

I have bought ammo from both Cheaper Than Dirt and the Sportsman's Guide. I bought 1000 rds of 7.62x39 for $110 before the price went up on it, probly going on 2 years or so ago. I still have a couple hundred left. My order was back ordered, but they still gave it to me for the price when I ordered it. Now its more than twice that. I have also ordered 8x56R from TSG as well as .303 Brit. I have also ordered .303 Brit from CTD. Never any problems. Not too bad a price for the .303 Brit either. Pakistani stuff... But those are the only two places I have bought ammo from online.

I try to buy a couple hundred every time I go to a gun show just to keep piling it up if the price is good. 7.62x54R, 7.62x39, .303 Brit or 8mm Mauser to keep feeding my rifles, and entertain myself. Waiting for the Red Dawn scenario xD

I said before, buy as much as you can, every time you can! Thi stuff will not get cheaper. Ditto on reloading components.
