Dogs are amazing..

I just ran outside to take the dog out and set the trash out in the trash bin at the curb. All of a sudden my Boxer would not move. Every hair on her body stood up so to speak. I looked into the night but couldn't see anything out of the ordinary. Tried to drag her by the choke collar, but she wouldn't budge

I managed to toss the trash into the bin. It made some noise. Then I heard it, "SSSSSSSSSS!" About ten feet in front of me was a rattlebug warming itself up on the still hot TX asphault. It went like heck in the other direction after I backed away.

It's just amazing how dogs are so much more keen to things than we are....

FLEA DROPS

i would like to give anyone out there this warning . last night me and my wife gave our cats a bath and put some of those seargents flee drops on there back. well that was a big misstake. we now have one cat that is having siezures. and the other two have the shakes really bad. we might have to put one down he is siezing really bad.the other two are doin fine though. they must have had a really bad reaction to it. we stayed up all night with the worst one . he is doin better than last night but not a whole lot better. there is nothing worst than watching you'r pet go thuogh this .don't get me wronge it is not the products fault . it is just a reaction to it.take my advice just stick to giving them a bath. the droppes are not worth it .we feel really bad cause we put it on them. but how were we to know this would happen. my dog is doin fine . and the other two cats are also doin fine .but three out of six of my pets are reacting to it. just use this stuff with caution (PLEASE).

Tommy, I have used the flea drops a lot. Are you SURE you did not give them DOG flea drops? The dog drops are poisonous to cats and the boxes are clearly labeled for dogs only and warn they are poisonous.

snake bite

This is why you dont want to get bit. Thats my hand before surgery. I lost both of those fingers at the knuckle. I still hold the record for the amount of anti-venin given.

Thumbs down

D**n...that picture really looks painful. I'm sorry that you lost your fingers.

Now we know where your handle came from. That's an experience we could all do without. I suppose you had to switch hands for doing most things, including shooting. Is that correct?

You are right about being painful. That was the worst pain I've ever experienced and it wasnt just localized in my hand. The venom moved throughout my body and most all of my internal organs hurt to. Especially my lungs. It took a looong time for complete recovery.
Its funny that I'm still right handed. My doctor told me I would be left handed. I can do everything I used to do and can actually do a few things better! I guess five fingers get in the way sometimes. One thing that is a little more difficult for me is shooting pistol. I can still do it OK, but not as fast...especially single action. Rifles are no problem.
This happened in 1988 while 4-wheeling. I ran over a snake and stopped to look at it. As I walked up from behind the snake sort of flipped around and latched on to both fingers and just held on. I couldnt get that sucker off my fingers for nothing. I pulled and yanked as he pumped all his venom in. Thank goodness I had my nephew with me because I would have never made it into town. I started losing conciousness in just a few minutes. I woke up days later in ICU. The fingers started turning black in about a day. They even smelled like rotten meat. They were amputated 8 days after being bitten.
If anyone has a question about a snake bite, I'm the one to ask!

Are all rattlebug bites that bad? I've heard that the younger they are, the more potent they are; but the older they are, the harder they hit ya........ Is any of that true?

Most bites arent this bad. Most are called "dry bites" because the snake will just bite to get your attention without injecting much, if any venom.
Its not true that the little ones are more potent. They are exactly the same but a small snake hasnt learned how to regulate the amount of venom he injects. The larger snakes have much larger venom sac than a small one and if they decide to empty it into you, well, you saw what will happen.

Talking Those rattlers are for real!

rtlesnkesbite:

Now I know why I don't like snakes! Don't care what variety they are...if I'm able, I'll kill them ASAP.

About a year ago I spent a weekend riding a sand rail at the dunes in NW Oklahoma at a state park called Little Sahara State Park near Waynoka. People converge there annually for a rattlesnake hunt.

Glad I didn't confront one when I wrecked and was lying there on the sand.

Klaus: Several years ago I had the unpleasant task one day of working in an environment where a teacher had left either a dead cat or dog in enbalming fluid inside of a refrigerator of the high school science room laboratory.

My department was responsible for managing the remodeling of that school and all of the electrical power had to be turned off for several days. Unfortunately, that's when the smell started reeking out of the science room doors and I had the unpleasant task of loading it into a "body bag", plus spending several hours in the lab inventorying all of the unneeded chemicals which were scheduled for disposal.

We gave up on getting the odor out of the refrigerator because it had saturated the insulation and would have been nearly impossible to correct.

Actually, the science teachers had been told beforehand that all electrical power would be off for part of the summer and to take proper precautions.

I'll never forget that smell. !@@#$#%^&# it was bad!
