I would try your local Sheriff or State Police. Also call one of the big on line dealers like Bud's, Riverview, Impact Guns, J&G etc and ask them if they can ship to CA. They know most of the laws pretty well.

Bad News for Taurus PT709 Slim Buyers

I just hung up the phone with Taurus International where I was told they do not manufacture an extended magazine for the 709 slim.

AND, they have no intention of making an extended magazine for this weapon. For some unknown reason, they scrubbed the original idea to manufacture an extended mag for the Slim.

So, if you are planning to purchase one of these guns with the intent to purchase a longer magazine, you will be sadly disappointed.

I wish I had made this call yesterday before I bought this gun.

If I had the equipment, I would suddenly become a third party magazine manufacturer.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Either way I'm buying one. Been eyeing them too long to not add one to my collection.

Actually, I just called them and they said they'll be releasing the extended magazine around or just after the holiday season. They said to call afterwards to check if they have it. I'll give them a call at the start of the next year.

As far as the actual gun goes, I'm very happy with it. At first, it had the rare problem that some of their releases had, that the extractor didn't work properly. I just have them a call, sent it in (lifetime warranty ), and lo and behold it was sent back fully working. Haven't had a problem since.

I recommend it.

****** Please note That was not my quote and I never said or heard they are not making an extended magazine. I quoted someone else. Not sure how my name got put on that quote but the information did not come from me. Below is the original post that I quoted. I quoted this and then said I planned on buying one anyway which I did and am very happy with.

That's weird, looks like you said that here.

Anyways, make sure you give them a call after new years to get an extended magazine (or two). It'll be worth it =)

Any other slim owners out there? Looking for a good holster for my slim for light clothes carry. I like IWB in the small of my back but open to suggestions too.

Any advice on how best to facilitate that process. Is it as simple as calling them up and making arrangements, or did you encounter anything along the way that you would do differently the next time around?

thanks for any feedback on the return process to Taurus in Miami...
I'd send it back. I have several Taurus guns and have had to return two. My opinion based on my experience is Taurus makes some great guns but their quality assurance sucks. For me it's been hit or miss lately--the guns either function or they don't and the don't is discovered within the first few rounds downrange. I've gotten to the point I won't buy another Taurus unless it's at a range where I can shoot it and return it there on the spot if it doesn't work (many of the larger chains have a "no returns" policy).

You can try their website which has a section to type in the problem and gets a form for the return to be enclosed with the gun, but this didn't work for the second gun I returned. Their website has the return instructions and address on it -- you might have to print up your own letter which describes the problem. Shipping is via Fed Ex to Taurus and will be on your own dime--you tell Fed Ex that the unloaded gun is being returned to the factory for maintenance and they will ship it via the shipping by common carrier rules (it's NOT hazmat and doesn't require any significant special handling--some offices don't understand this--nor do you put anything on the box indicating it's a firearm or have them open it up--just make sure it's unloaded. I believe you must ship it to Miami priority overnight though which is more expensive). Taurus will ship it back when done and there will be an adult signature required. You will probably get a letter with a tracking number from Taurus telling you they have your gun

In all fairness I've had to return other guns to manufacturers on occasion (including a Smith) but it hasn't been for the crippling no-fire defects the Taurus has had (I had a PT-1911 which had a sear malfunction giving a click and no hammer drop sometimes and a Public Defender which would totally lock up and not turn with ammo -- it did OK dry firing before I bought it which gave me a most unwelcome surprise on the range). I don't think much of the Customer Service at Taurus either--I had to ship back on my own dime, the "status" service of the pistol didn't work worth a darn (except to say they got it and were working on it) and it took 8 WEEKS to get the gun back (ALL other manufacturers prepaid my shipping and had the gun back within 2 weeks).

When the guns were fixed they worked swimmingly and I do like the design and innovation of the Taurus guns. I'd have no reservations about a Taurus as a CCW or home defense gun after it demonstrated reliability on the range.

Bottom line for me from my personal experience is if you buy a Taurus from a "no returns" store you are rolling the dice to see whether or not you'll have to wait 8 weeks to have a working gun.

Any slim owners have a laser site? I was looking on Crimson's website and don't see anything that says it fits a Slim.

I bought a PT 709SS Saturday and haven't had a chance to fire it yet. I find I am unable to remove the slide with the take down procedure with out pulling the trigger and dropping the hammer first, after that it's easy.
In the manual it says "Dry firing is bad for this firearm, whether the hammer block is engaged or not".
How do I drop the hammer without dry firing?
The take down procedure doesn't mention pulling the trigger as you remove the slide from the grip (frame).
If you don't pull the trigger as you remove the slide from the grip (frame) it's a tough push at first, is this normal? Is it OK to pull the trigger as you remove the slide from the grip (frame)?
The PT709SS9 and PT709B9 come with a 9 round extended magazine, will the 9 round magazine work in the PT709SS and the PT709B?
At http://www.taurususa.com/ I cant even find a replacement 7 round magazine.
I'm disappointed I can’t find laser sights for this pistol, dose any know of a quality grip activated laser sight for the PT 709 Slim?

I handled a 709 in my gun shop last week, that was a BIIIG mistake. Now I have to buy one. I just bought my pt111 but the 709 just felt nice! even for being as thin as a credit card it still felt nice to hold!

I'll be buying $1 lotto tickets until I can afford one of these...
