I just read one called "If you Survive" by George Wilson. He started out in Company F 4th Division in WWII . He was the only one that made it to the end in 1945.
Another thought is a movie I just watched "The History Channel The War Of 1812" That was one of the best videos I've seen lately. Another great video is "Deadly Weapons". Extremely interesting.

Non-fiction; Original Meanings, politics and ideas in the making of the constitution by Jack N. Rakove published in 1996 may be out of print but your local library should have or be able to get you a copy very relevent for today.
Fiction McMurtry, Tolkien, L'Amour Mary Stewart, etc, etc. A good series on the mountain folk of the Appalachians are the "Foxfire" books.[also non-fiction]there are so many out there that if you can't find anything you're not really looking.

Texas T....if you pulled your head out of your ass, the oxygen would return to your brain and you could think clearly again. Howard Zinn is/was a marxist, everything he wrote is bullshit.

Sounds about like everything you write. Btw, I have never been a fan of CC. Zinn didn't have to tell me that.

Hands down. NAM by Mark Baker. Stories of the men who fought there. Nonfiction. Been out of print for some time. Not hard to find on the Net. I've read it many times.

''Captains and the Kings'' by Taylor Caldwell''
Do you believe the early immigration were tough. A fiction, [normally not a fiction reader] I enjoyed. Historically maybe, time felt with some fascinating ideology about power and corruption.

Although the authors claim an unbiased look at history, that is quite impossible since writing about history requires a person to interpret past events, it is a very refreshing conservative viewpoint of US history. While it is biased towards a conservative viewpoint, it does a great job of touching on subjects and presenting facts that liberal authors like to exclude or skim over, like Zinn.

Excellent book if you want to see exactly how modern news services inject their political agenda into any news story. This book picks on the Times of course but really it reveals exactly how any news source slants the news. The only thing I didnt like about this book is that the author repeats himself, but its still a great book. Just think about it, how many times have you seen the word ultra-conservative versus how many times you have seen ultra-liberal? This book goes through the Times archives and answers that question for you.

Pick one, be warned though, you better be handy with electricity. Included are directions for building various lasers (lighting, cutting, etc), ion ray gun, various electronic jammers, emp generators, rail gun, tracking devices and many more. The author does plug his sideline business of supplying parts throughout, and he does charge for them, if you are handy enough with electronics though you can find alternate parts because some of the parts he lists are extremely rare in an attempt to force you to buy from him. But like I said, if your handy enough then you can get around that because they arent really needed.

This is a great book if you want to learn how much our food has changed with large scale agri-business. This will make you think twice about where you buy your food, so you may not want to read this if you dont feel like spending time and money changing you food source.

One of my favorite fiction books of all time. An amazing story of revenge.

SB,
As we know, authors and books provide us with information and perspective...good or bad, and in the middle.
Authors like Ayn Rand help us consider and possibly gain understanding into things from another perspective, things we may have never considered or would even care to entertain...
These perspectives can help us understand how others think, feel and act, (and can help us better understand ourselves) and help us to better be our brother's keeper (and the keeper of ourselves)...in spite of that which they think, feel and do which we disagree with...which can be totally opposed to our own thoughts, feelings and actions.
In a portion of my reading/learning pursuits, selections that I pursue must be done with alert caution and careful sifting...because the bits of helpful info are so often surrounded by unnecessary fodder.
Reminds me of a quote I've read: "And all these things shall give thee experience..." There's also a book by that title, written by Neal Maxwell, which provides unique insight/info to help us enlarge our perspective on life and do well with the associated experiences: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw...rience&x=0&y=0
