Recommend a Book for me please!

Hey yall. Ive got a few weeks off after Independence day and I'd like to read a good book. Usually I have to read so much stuff that I dont want to read that I end up not reading stuff I do like. Some subjects I like; gun related (of course), westerns, history based, military and such. I prefer non-fiction but a good fiction western is always cool. I figured that most of yall would enjoy the same type of books as me and could fill me in on some good un's!! Thanks!!

P.S. I watched Unforgiven again last night and that got me in the mood for a good book! Thats also why I changed my avatar :-)

For non-fiction, I would recommend "On Combat". It's written by a retired Army Colonel, who is also a Phsycologist. I can't remember his name, but you should find it on the internet. I couldn't put it down!

TexasT,
I just bought that book...but haven't taken the chance to read it yet.

I'm reading from a couple of other books presently:

Making the Best of Basics - Family Preparedness Handbook
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw...book&x=14&y=15

The ABC's of Reloading (8th Edition)
http://www.amazon.com/Abcs-Reloading...4145732&sr=8-1

Family Protection Guide: Always the Victor - Never the Victim
http://www.amazon.com/Family-Protect...4145768&sr=1-1

Armed Response
http://www.amazon.com/Armed-Response...4145805&sr=1-1

And, I like to repeatedly look at the pictures and review info in:
Book of the .44
http://www.amazon.com/Gun-Digest-Boo...4146235&sr=8-1

Another book arrived in the mail yesterday, This Land Is Our Land, and I look forward to reading it too...http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=220166824894

Plus, this list goes on for other good books that are en route for summer reading...just ask and I'll gladly provide a list.

I thoroughly recommend . . .

JEFFERSON'S SECOND REVOLUTION : The election crisis of 1800 and the triumph of republicanism by Susan Dunn.

This truly applies to our current situation. Thomas Jefferson broke from the Federalists to run on the basis that the will and feelings and common sense and intellect of the American people should be the determining influence on the policies of the federal government.

It was a watershed event in American history not far removed from importance from the American Revolution against England (Jefferson's first revolution).

Jefferson won and so did the American people in 1800. Adams, the defeated president, could never bring himself to discuss the 1800 election. Till the day he died Adams called it the Revolution of 1801 - the year Jefferson went into the presidency after winning the election of 1800.

I am currently enjoying "Nothing to Lose" by Lee Child. Great read, lots of action and humor as well.

Also, if you are into this type of stuff I am enjoying "Paying Attention to God in prayer" by Rev. Murray S.J.. Just finished "Weeds amongst the Wheat" by Tom Green S.J. Both are interesting and enlightening reads.

A People's History of the United States by Howard Zinn, then again I like any book that exposes Christopher Columbus for the snake that he was.

Yeah...um...there really shouldn't be a national holiday named after him. What he did was come to America, thinking it was India, looking for gold and exploiting the people. He did not discover America. You can't discover something that's already been found and inhabited. That would be like me walking into your garage and discovering your cars.

I think I know who you are talking about. He actually lives in a nearby town. His name is Colonel David Grossman. He has done a lot of lectures around here. I have heard of his book " On Killing" but not the one you mention. I will have to check it out! Great recommendation!

Yes, but...uh...think about it. It would be a new discovery to YOU!!!
My grandfather always told me I discovered America in 1960. LOL!!!!

Can you tell, TexasT? I love to heckle someone's strong opinions. Especially when I am out of their "smackin'" range!

If you really want to get inside the hearts and minds of the founding fathers read The Federalist Papers. It isn't light reading but it is insightful.

JK,
Which of these, The Federalist Papers, are you referring to?
Amazon.com: The Federalist Papers: Books

Thanks...
