I was talking to my girlfriend last night about this.

Sterno... no..., magnesium blocks and flint.

Bottled water... no..., water purifying solutions.

Canned vegetables... a little but also seeds for growing later.

Camping pots and pans. Light survival gear.

Ammo and a few weapons, pistol, rifle, shotgun.

Any other suggestions?

Don't forget bartering. Get a couple of cases of TP and a couple cases of degree. Neither city folk nor country folk like corncobs or oak limbs. Case of good soft TP heap big joojoo on trade.

I guess I found the right place, with fourteen acres of hardwood, and ten acres of pasture, and a fishing pond. And the nice part is, the driveway is easy to defend, and we have the high ground! What was going thru my head, two and a half years ago? I thought I was just looking for a place to live, but maybe my sub-conscious old military mind had some input, on what kind of place I wanted. Oh well, I don't know about that, but I do have some nicely upholstered four-hoof drive vehicles standing by, in the pasture. I guess I can get by, for a few years.

Proper preparation precedes performance...and, now is the time for preparation.

...in whatever way we're able.

here in the north east my wood stove gets a good work out every winter 2 weeks ago finished splitting and stacking fire wood. I have approximately 31/2 to 4 cords we keep the thermostat around 60 and use the wood stove. So far wood is pretty easy to get if you don't mind cutting and splitting it! The last time I checked, to purchase fire wood cut and split costs about $300. for a full cord.winters up here aren't as bad as they use to be in the 60's and 70's rarely does it get minus -20 or 30 degrees these days.

You can buy a cord of quality Doug Fir slab wood, cut to firebox length for $50-60, and a cord of round pine, also cut to firebox length, for $65-70 here...

Just stocked up the pantries two weeks ago. It's a good feeling to have 6 mos worth, but it's better to have six years worth. If Iran happens all bets are off. This globalism thing isn't working out. One countries problem is everybody's problem. People need to stock up on common sense!

It is good on the wallet to see the slight dip in crude oil prices and lowered costs at the pump...a possible lull before the storm picks up force again?

Wonder what Pred did to get banned... ??

I didn't think his post was that far off-base in regard to the original post in this thread.

Don't see how you'd miss somebody constantly wishing ill on you and your family, or cheering on natural disasters, or waiting for shtf so he can snipe you while your back is turned. A lot of people really don't appreciate that. However, I don't think this forum will ever have a lack of trolls.

Getting back on the point of the initial post... The American Thinker explained it, I believe, fairly well.

American Thinker: The Food Crisis

Essentially, it claims the food crisis isn't being caused by shortages... but politics. And goes in to some of the history of what's caused several in the past, and who benefits from them.

Rufus Rhastus. He hasn't been on for a while. His universal solution was gasoline-soaked tires around people's necks, and a match....

There are a couple of situations where that may be of value, but not as an overall solution/cure for the various situations we face...

...cause it would take too many tires and fuel costs are still way too high.
