I owned a Glock 22 first. It worked flawlessly, was easy to care for and shoot, but made me nervous when holstering it. I used a holster with a strap over top. Second dislike was that it moved in my hand when firing that .40 S&W round, especially when the weather was hot and I was sweaty. I was in my local gun shop one day and there was an XD40 with 4" barrel. I held it and it didn't want to be put down. I sold the Glock and bought the XD and never regretted it. The grip safety is a great thing on the XD. Cures nervous tenedencies and it comes on target fast and comes back fast for a second shot. It's a softer shooter. More comfortable. Got to be an XD.

All these folks are right. The one that feels right will be the right one. You will enjoy shooting it more & if you enjoy it, you'll practice more & become more proficient. A gun doesn't do you any good if you can't hit what you're aiming at. Now, I don't own either the XD or the Glock, but I think they are both double action pistols. Someone here will correct me if I am wrong. In that light, I would suggest that you look into double/single acting pistol. The single action is a much shorter trigger pull &, to me, makes it easier to hit what I'm aiming at. Again, it still comes down to what YOU like.

Have shot both Glocks and SA XD's (wife has a XD40 SC). Was introduced to
Glocks by a friend (cop) who has had one in nearly every caliber/size and carries it as a duty weapon. Last time I saw him, he had bought an XD9 SC for his wife and said he REALLY liked that pistol. I prefer the XD myself.  | |

This could turn into one of the biggest "Ford or Chevy" fights ever. Both guns have many people who praise them and both guns have many people who hate them. I think sales statistics show the XD growing fast and taking Glock over but there are millions of people who swear by Glock. That many people can't be wrong. I personally am not a Glock fan at all. Doesn't make it a bad gun, just makes it a bad gun for me. Personally I don't care for mustard. That doesn't mean mustard is a bad condiment.

All bias Aside both pistols perform great, shoot well and the sights are easy to read. What it comes down to is how it feels in your hand when you shoot it. I prefer the way the XD feels it fits me like a glove but that might not be the case for you. Shoot them both a couple times before you decide.

I have the SD-45. I like the grip angle on the SD better than the Glock. It's more like the 1911 and very comfortable. Also own a Ruger P-345 and it also has the same grip angle as the 1911.

Since this is a fairly important decision and probably comes down to "feel", I would strongly recommend someone shoot both more than just a few times.
You will know.
I'll let you guess where I came down. 
Either is a very capable platform.

I have owned both the glock and XD pistols. These include the G23, G17, XDM 9mm, XD 45acp compact 4 inch barrel.(with the 13rnd full size extention). Currently I only own the XD's. I have sold my glocks because for me the XD's just feel better in my hand. I don't miss the G23, but I just might have to own another G17. It was a pleasure to shoot.
They are both outstanding pistols. The thing that sells the XD is the personal preference for the feel in my hand, and the fact that Springfields XD pistols have fully supported barrels with non hexagonal rifling. Meaning you can fire reloads, and even lead bullets.

Rented a Glock, XD and M&P all in compact/Subcompact (smallest they made). Shot 50 rounds out of each in intivals of 10 rounds each. I decided I didn't like the feel of the Glock at all and tossed it out of the running. My Glock groups were much larger than the XD and M&P. I went back a week later and shot 100 rounds through both the XD and M&P. Both were/are great guns but the XD Subcompact just felt better to me, I shot it better and it is a little smaller. I live in an area where we wear shorts and t shirts year round so size does matter.

| Springfield Vrs Glock
I've got a Glock and SA Sub-compact 9mm and hands down I like the SA much better. The look, feel, trigger pull, grips, ease of take-down, like it all over the Glock. I'll probably look hard at the XDM next, in 45 ACP. It's all a matter of choice, what a country!

If the XD were a Medcedes the Glock would be a Geo. The XD is a fine weapon you can rely on. The Glock is a High Point with a high price tag. I can think of a dozen guns that are $100 or more cheaper than a Glock and are far better quality.

As for the shooting well, I understand that perfectly. I was only trying to say that it's proven reliable. I know everyone shoots a little different. Case in point, I have a Ruger Mark III Target Model with which I can consistently score headshot groups with at 50 yards with ease. I can even do that from 100 yards about 20% of the time with open sights. I've let several other more experienced shooters shoot it and they can't hit didly squat at 30 yards with it. I just happen to be more comfortable with how it's set up. The same way, I've seen guys consistantly hit a body sized object at 100 yards with a Glock 17. I doubt I could do that. I'm sure there are guys out there who can do the same with a SA XD because it suits them better. However, it in no way makes it a better pistol than a Glock. Just more suited for the specific user.
