I have only held Glocks and Springfield XDs. Never shot either one of them. I was just wondering what you guys thought of the two. As far as different models, I don't know how many there are for either one. I guess if any one has any opinions on 9mm or .45cal XDs or Glocks that would be good info.
I'd love to shoot either one, and might think about buying one. So I was just looking for some info or comparisons on the two.

IC,
My semi-auto experiences, with these two manufactures, is practical with Springfields and academic with Glocks.
I've got a XD45 ACP and have found it to be a very good pistol, in all the ways Springfield promotes it to be in their marketing. While employed at Sportsman's Warehouse, I saw the huge popularity rise in these pistols...it was hard to keep adequate stocks on hand. The folks behind the gun counter had much good to say about Springfields, from their personal experiences of owning/shooting them...and from responses they'd received from customers who purchased/used them.
I've read and heard a lot about Glocks, both good and some not so good. It seems that there is a significantly larger percentage of those who own/use them that like what Glocks offer than those who don't.
Should I make another purchase tomorrow, based on what I've experienced practically and learned academically, it would be another XD...
Iron Colonel: Sir; I've shot the mess outta both the G17 G22 XD9 XD45
Both are fun, both shoot well, both act civilized, neither seems more difficult to learn.
My leaning toward the Glock,= a lower sight radius. Probably doesn't mean anything; looks good on paper. [more words?]
My shooting partner and I routinely load for each other and hand off the firearm. Doesn't matter which firearm you get, make your shot.
Dance on a quarter @ 7 paces with his XD's after the first 2 shots? makes no sense but does happen
We competition? against each other? hahaha, his mine yours "I win"
He seems to be ?better? with the Glock? makes little sense; just seems that way.
I like the XD's; my reason for directing him to them. He didn't want to be like me
Glock has more firearms in the market, with that you will have what seems issues. Most are handling shooter related. i.e. not paying attention.
Will you go wrong with either? I doubt it. Is the 9mm a good choice
Is the .45 a good choice
Again in reality, 9mm is more fun to shoot, ''cheaper'' Will the 9mm do what needs to be done with a handgun? yes.
With either one; practice until you are comfortable, then practice until you are proficient, then practice and enjoy.
Safety's? I carry revolvers fully loaded. Glock safety's suit me fine. I aint too comfortable with XD's safety's but in reality ''no big deal''

I have owned both - I now own 5 Glocks and no XD's. But, the XD is a good pistol. I just prefer Glocks. I would recomend getting the one that feels the best in "your" hand. Functionally, I think they are about equal (obviously, I am biased to the Glock).

Both are excellent and reliable guns. Try them both and see what works for you. I sold my 2 Glocks and now have 4 XD's. ( One is for sale if you're interested ) They just fit me better. The Glocks were excellent
guns, just like the XD's more.

Don't have a glock and have only shot one once. Itwas a 9mm don't remember what model. It was a nice gun. I have a XD subcompact 9mm. I guess I should say my wife does. It's a great gun. Have put over 2000 rounds through it with not one mishap. They are easy to clean also.
I have 2 GLOCks and like the extremly well. They don't look pretty but work everytime with good ammo. GLOCKs are (in my opinion) utility guns and that's what I use them for.
Before purchasing my XD as my first pistol, most of my experience was with my friends' pistols, mainly Sig and Glock. G22 and G30. If you have smaller hands, the XD will feel more comfortable. I felt like the Glocks were just bit too bulky. Firing behavior is remarkably different in my opinion. Maybe because of poor fit to my hand on the Glock, but recoil was more noticeable and affected followup shot time more than with the XD. I also prefer the XD trigger over the Glock trigger. Accuracy is comparable in my opinion, but I tend not to go for ultra precision with my handguns. If I can get 2 in the chest and one in the head in about 1.5 seconds, I'm happy. I like the XD's disassembly and cleaning much more as well.
i completely agree with darkfront. i love the trigger on the xd's, we have two and a sig. never could really get excited about glocks. honestly if they were mine(im 19 theyre my dads), id trade the sig for another xd. we've got it in 9mm, and if theres ever a need for more punch we load our own + and ++ ammo. in then end though guns are very personal things and get what feels right to you since you're the one whos gonna be shootin it.
Both are great guns and you won't go wrong with either. It is more a matter of personal preferance. I have an XD Subcompact in .40 and am waiting on a full size XD 9MM. The best suggestion I can give is find a range that rents guns. Both Glock and Springfield are very common rental guns. Rent one of each and decide which one is for you by shooting both. I liked shooting both but the XD just felt better in my hand and had a much smoother trigger. I think XD has less recoil myself. You can ask 1000 different people and get 1000 different answers. Many ranges will even waive the rental fee if you buy one of the guns you rented. I told the salesman I was looking at buying one and rented the Glock, XD and Smith & Wesson M&P .40. Upon turning them in he asked me what I thought and I told him I liked the XD. He smelled a sale. I told him I would buy the XD on the spot if he could waive the rental fee and he did. I can't say enough about how much I love my XD but I would still rent both if I were you. The gun I love you might hate.

What model is your XD you are selling and how much? I own an XD Subcompact .40 and would love a 9MM in 4" or even 5" barrel.
I like them both. I own the XD and my dad the Glock. You can't go wrong with either it's more personal preference for hand fit. Both of ours have had trigger work so they shoot very similar.

I bought an XD45..actually 2 of them, one for my son, who after going to the shooting range said HE LOVED IT! I haven't had a chance to shoot mine yet but I do like the way it feels in my hand. I'll let you know more about it after I get to fire some rounds through it.
I own a Springfield XD40subcompact, and I wouldn't trade it for a glock anyday of the week. Don't get me wrong, Glock makes a fine weapon;theres no denyin' that. But the SA XDs' take the best features of Glock and combine it with what we all know and love as the 1911-A-1(this is only my opinion mind you). The quality is first rate matinace is a snap and be it .40 or .45 even the inexpirenced shooter will soon find themselves hittin' targets worthy of hangin' on the fridge!
owned and fired both but in the end it all comes down to feel
the one that feels better in your hand regardless of weather you have fired it will MOST LIKELY be the right one for you.
personally my hand is better suited for XD than for glock.
When I bought my first XD (I own 3 now) I rented a Glock, XD and M&P. I decided right away I didn't like Glock. I went back a second time and rented the XD and M&P. Both are great guns and it was a tough choice. 200 rounds later through both guns I chose the XD. It just felt better to me and has extra safety features the M&P didn't have. The M&P is a great gun I just prefer the XD.
