Generation Gap

The sky is not falling. Armageddon is not at hand.

I am a little concerned about the amount of people on this board
that are soothsayers about the end of times.

I have seen complaints about young people, politics, business, religion, morality, and many other subjects. This is called a generation gap. It has been going on for hundreds (if not thousands) of years. Every generation thinks the next generation is responsible for the decline of the nation/religion/etc.
When Elvis swung his hips, adults claimed that the moral declination of society was deplorable. They thought the end or morality and decency was imminent. Almost 50 years later - we still have laws prohibiting oral sex. Child pornography is still illegal. Prostitution is still legal in only one county in the country.

Adults swear that children have no respect. Children swear that adults are "anachronistic". It is human nature.

When legislation started to allow blacks the right to vote, it was thought by many to be the beginning of the end. It didn't hurt the country after all.

32 Years after the military shot colllege students at Kent State - It is still not a police state.

Ruby Ridge, Waco - Still no jack-booted thugs smashing down doors in the middle of the night.

I am not saying that we should turn a blind eye to our government or anything, but it is not nearly as bad as some are trying to make it out to be. I don't believe the !@#$ is going to hit the fan. I don't believe there is going to be a meltdown. Why? Because I believe the world is becoming a better place. Not worse. The standard of living has increased in most countries over the last few decades. The level of education has risen in most countries. The medial care around the world has improved over the last few decades.

In short - Lighten Up!

I half agree... I ultimately believe the world will end, that things will in the course of history get worse.
But we ought to presume to understand it all, like trying to name the antichrist or identify the day of the end of the world.

What I'm saddened by is the decrease in gun related discussion. Nowadays when I check the new posts they're almost all in the Gun Room. Nothing wrong with the Gun Room, but let's talk more guns!

By the way, this generation gap... I think I'm on the other side already. I don't think of my parents as anachronistic, just mentally challenged
In fact, some times they seem to modern for me.

Slowly chipping away at the mountain,no one notices the mountain getting smaller; then, one day it's gone;and no one remembers that once a mountain stood there.

Not to get a big religious debate fired up, but The events of recent see to go hand in hand w/ Revelations in the Bible; if one so chooses to believe that way.

As far as the end of the world goes, I think it's silly that a lot of the people who claim that it is near seem to be trying to resit and prevent it. Well if you believe the Bible and the Bible says it will happen, why do those who believe it try to change it?
I believe the Bible, and believe that it tells us how to live and ultimately how things will end, but it does not say when or where, in fact it explicitly says you will not know the day or hour, but that we shouldn't be surprised at what happens but that we should keep the faith. I will resist forces that are evil, but I will not presume that I can stop them, only that I will not give in to them. If they take me out, oh well. If I would give my life for freedom, I would likewise not mind being gone when freedom is gone as well.

This country has seen much worse times. The Revolutionary War, Civil War, WWI, WWII, Cuban Blockade, the list goes on. I believe a lot of people on this board seem to want the end to come because they are "ready". Speaking in terms of arms and faith. But I wouldn't go stocking up just yet. It will blow over just like Desert Storm. People thought all of the arab countried would rise up and it would be a world war again and even go nuclear. Well guess what...it didn't.

i don't know lenny . acording to the news people . the desert storm war is not over yet. and it looks like it is goin to escalate even more .so don't be so quick to say it didn't or it won't. to me if the war was over then why are we still patroling the sky over them. why do they keep shooting at us?. until all the soldiers are home and out of there . it is still a hot zone. and can blow up at any moment. and i do believe it is the right thing to be stocking up for the day when it does blow up. hell when a huricane comes my way i stock up for it and it sometimes goes the other way. so i guess am i crazy for buying supplies for that to. i believe that when it is ny time to go there is nuthing i can do about it . but i'll be ****ed if i am goin to see my familly get murderd . or raped .and say ( man if i only had a gun) or ( i should have planned for this to happen)but like i say if it is goin to happen there is not one thing that you or i can do to stop it from happening. i think what i said makes a little sinse. or at least i hope so

Tommy,
Preparing for a huricane is very logical. Preparing for an invasion on your home property is looney. People that did that back in the 40's, 50's, and 60's have a lot of extra concrete and a lot of wasted food and batteries and cash.
I am not saying that being armed is a bad idea. On the contrary! But stocking up for some unknown event is a little short sighted I think.
Besides, like you said when it comes you can't stop it. So why bother?

just a peace of mind . it makes me feel better to know i have a way to defend my family. and that's all i need to sleep at night. you see i have a bad neck and can't defend myself no other way then to use deadly force if need be. so having my guns makes me feel alittle bit at ease. when i get in my car i have my .44 on the side of my seat. and at home i got my ak and my 12 guage . just a peaceof mind like i said thats all.

Well, this is the General (off topic) forum. Try one of the gun forums.

I keep my 12 gage close by and ready as well as my G23 with 3 hi cap mags, all the other guns and ammo are dismantled and inside the gun vault, no displays in the house.

i for one do not know when, or in what form the SHTF day . but preparation for it is the better option to go. the SHTF day doesn't have to be neighbor against neighbor wars, or a UN invasion of our God given soverignty. some thing as basic as tornado, hurricane, heavey snow or earthquake is a more likely scenario.prudent people keep emergency supplies handy, equip their vehicles with supplies incase they get in trouble on a snow and ice covered road. just remember the first 72 hours are the most critical, and the gummint may not be there!!!
