Thumbs up Mission accomplished...maybe

As some of you who remember an older thread of mine know, I've been babysitting a house for a friend of mine since the middle of February. Punks and local gang members had taken it over, trashed it and made it their hangout; every time he tried to board it up, they broke in anyway; every time he fixed something they destroyed it. So we hit it in the middle of a week, put up a high chain link fence, boarded the windows properly, and I moved my motor home into the yard.

One guy tried to break in through the front door with a bar one night, and someone tried unsuccessfully to get through a window while I was at work one day. Aside from that things have been calm since the first week or so, when I had to explain to a few people that the welcome mat was no longer out. But it's tied up a lot of my time.

Anyway, my friend hired a guy to build him a covered patio a couple of months ago, and the guy did a bang-up job for a reasonable price. So George talked to him about the house I've been guarding. The guy spent a few days prepping it, and moved his family in a few weeks ago. He's been working on it himself in the evenings and bringing in his crew on Saturdays, and so far is doing good work.

I don't know any details of the deal he made with George, but it seems to be working out; the house has people in it day and night now, and it's getting fixed. It looks like I'm off the hook, and can go about my normal life again without worrying. Knock on wood...

Keep your fingers crossed that everything turns out. With people there day and night it should keep the punks from thinking about messing with the house....Does he have a gun to protect his family and the house???

Smile undertaking

troy2000: Sir; I had wondered about that undertaking. Good to see that maybe you can move on and do something else for awhile.

What have you planned for your next ''adventure''

With me keeping them cleared out for several months and a family actually living in the house now, I would imagine the little scum buckets have moved on. His family is probably in no more danger than any of the neighbors, now; if they had come after anyone it would've been me.

Looks like I'll be spending more time with the wife. That's a fairly adventurous undertaking right there...

Congrats on an admirable effort . . .

and I hope your mutual efforts bring a permanent improvement.

Perhaps it will inspire others to move into areas needing a good example.

Mike, why would you want me to be alone with my wife? Are you trying to get me killed? I depend on the possibility of witnesses for my very existence...

Thats great you got the problem resolved or seem to have Troy. Whats even better is you got it done with nobody getting hurt, especially yourself.

good job troy, but this could have been solved a little easier......all you needed to do was dig a lava moat around the house and stock it with lava monsters!

It has me worried, Steve. It's been my firm experience that no good deed goes unpunished...

Maybe this one will be the exception.

And to think my wife accuses me of being paranoid becase I watch episodes of "It Takes A Thief" on the Discovery Channel, where two ex-burglars who are now home security consults show homeowners how easy ti is to break in and rob a house in 10 minutes flat, take a look at our house, and want to buy a home security system. What put her off before is they didn't have sensors that could differentiate between a burglar and a cat. Now they do. She still thinks I'm being a paranoid lunatic. I can show her postls like your original one all I like, but Her Majesty has made up her mind and won't be swayed by mere facts. It's infuriating.
