Probably because there is a lot of private information on a computer now and having to have a PI license weeds out the weirdos and makes people more accountable?

This says it all....

"Some of the area's larger companies already employ technicians with PI licenses, a fact which generally doesn't apply to small computer repair shops."

Home PC repair is generally done better and faster and less expensively by small, independant businesses that establish a trust with their customers....something the dealers and larger electronics shops simply can't compete against. It has nothing to do with safe guarding information on your harddrive. Large companies generally have service contracts with the providers of their equipment to begin with.

I'd have to agree with this as the only plausible reason.

I suppose, when the computer repair biz slows, they can do some PI work on the side or go to work for the Cheaters show in Texas and tail a few adulterers. lmao

When it comes to the government PC repair and information, they don't have a clue. We have a large nuclear bomb facility here and they upgrade their computers on a regular basis. They use to run all their older boxes, minus the hard drives, thru a local auction house. Recently we noticed they started pulling the memory. Questioned them about it and they indicated the minds that be in Washington decided that "sensitive" information had pass thru that memory thus it had to be destroyed. DUH!!!!

Now they are shredding the whole computer...guess "sensitive" information was cooled by the fan...

The IT people at this facility all have FBI clearances. I can see them getting PI certifications.

Ever-loving proof that California doesn't have a monopoly on idiot politicians and laws...anyone want to take bets on who has connections with the guy who introduced this lunacy?

What's next? A PI license for certified public accountants, because of all the confidential info they deal with on a daily basis?

The Texas Department Of Public Safety, Highway Patrol, was given authority over PIs and Security Guards AND THE AUTHORITY TO WRITE REGULATIONS OVER BOTH. They have gone completely crazy. They write stuff up and run out and try to arrest everyone they can. They appointed a guy as a State Trooper, he did not go through their Academy, to oversee Security Guards. The guy has gone nuts, he even arrested 2 retired Sate Troopers!
I'm a Deputy Constable assigned to a School Campus. The Educational Code says I must be a Peace Officer. The school pays the Constable who in turn pays me. DPS decided that since I don't get paid directly by the school I have to wear a Security Guard patch or I'm breaking the law, law that DPS wrote not the State Leg.
This is mostly caused by the PI/Security Industry paying DPS for licenses.
Gee, you pay me so guess who has their hand stuck up DPS' back making the mouth move. The whole thing is a p-i-t-a. Hopefully someone with common sense will step in a straighten things up.

Ouch....

In reality, this is for forensics. So if the hard drive needs to be examined this would affect. Since the Geek Squad has their main forensics lab located in Minnesota, this would not affect the local stores.

There are idiot politicians everywhere. Dumb is dumb, and I never condone this. This is why we need be wary everywhere.

However, at least in TX I can carry my pistols most places (in a car without a permit if I so desire), buy a Taurus Judge (or most other firearms), and use the ammo I like. No waiting period, either.

Thank goodness I work on my own computers and don't carry a pistol in Texas; I'd be seriously tempted to use it.
