Every year for the past 26 years Minnesotians have celebrated the 4th of July with an outdoor festival called the Taste of Minnesota. It was held until recently at the State Capitol Building in St Paul. Now it is held across the Mississippi river at a park called Harriet Island. They have rides and lots of over priced food and best of all they have free music. Last year they had, and I saw, Alice Cooper, David Cassidy, Davey Jones, The Beach Boy, Deep Purple , George Throughgood and others that I didnt see. These are all free. As is this years lineup. This year so far I saw, REO Speedwagon, ![]() Boston, ![]() Bo Donaldson and the Heywoods, (Billy dont be a hero) ![]() The Cowsills, (Hair) ![]() Barry Williamson, (Greg Brady), Singing with Susie Cowsill, ![]() The bay City Rollers, (S A T U R D A Y Night), ![]() And a super great concert was Badfinger, ![]() Heres what it looked like today. St Paul is the large buildings across the river. ![]() Tomorrow Saturday is Seether and after that The Trashmen. And finally Sunday is the Zombies and then Eddie Money. Every night they have huge fireworks at 10:15. All paid for by the Powerball lottery.

WOW, a few well known names there. And the fact it's free is amazing. I'd love to see Boston. Granted, they're probably not the same as they once were, in their heyday so to speak, but I'd still like to see them. I loved many songs, jams they have. I ran across a picture disc/album of theirs on, I hate to say it, eBay and for $10 bucks + I think it was $4 bucks or so for shipping, I couldn't pass it up. But it sure sounds like a great time and a great place for family fun, food and fireworks.

All I can say is WOW!! It sounds like they cater to the fifties crowd! Agewise, I meant.

I wish I did not live so far away (in Texas) as this sounds like a really special event. Our Texas fairs are getting a bit on the stale side. Believe me, this is hard to admit. The Tri-State fair in Amarillo is so predictable we always know where the old Marine Corps tank will be parked. We could use some creative input down here. |

Ok back home from good ol Minnesota now. I was born and raised there but decided to move to a different state some time ago. The Taste of Minnesota also has lots of local bands, and this year they had what we called the Hallejah tent. They had Christian Groups, Gospel Music, Hmong Traditional Music etc. So here is what you have all been waiting for: The Zombies ![]() I also saw Eddie Money but to tell the truth he sucked. ![]() So much for the Taste of Minnesota for another year. Hope I get up there next year. Thanks for stopping by and taking a look. Hope you had a great 4th as well.
