If you're looking for a nice customized 10/22, just buy the parts that you want and build it yourself. Save a whole heck of a lot of money compared to what you'd pay for that same rifle assembled at a store or by a gunsmith. All the parts can be found online among other places, only the reciever requires a FFL. You end up with a 10/22 exactly the way you want it and you built it which to me adds to it. Just one of the great things about the 10/22.

Perhaps spending a little more is worth it to keep the local gun shop from going out of business. When was the last time anyone spent an hour or so just shooting the breeze about guns or politics or whatever at Wal-mart? Local gunshops aren't just for buying they are for socializing with like minded people. That's what this forum is all about.

How about the long list of semi- rifles for a new so-called "Assault Weapons Ban"? Some people are anxiously buying high-capacity magazines and rifles- just in case they are soon to be on a prohibited list after November. Some are probably hoping to scalp people, as some are already doing with LEO Ruger Mini magazines on GunBroker etc. One guy listed a Ruger factory 30-round (issued only to LEOs) Mini 30 magazine at $100.
People appear to describe almost any autoloader as an endangered species, from what I've read the last few months, but maybe I'm mistaken, and the 10/22 was never on any of those "Far Left Loons' " lists.

People can buy and sell how they want. I can list a rifle magazine for 10K dollars. Pretty unlikely anyone will buy it though.
And the 10/22 was listed on a far left loon gun ban list at one time. Incidentally, it was called HR 1022. I think they have since amended it, probably to make it more passable.

.22Guy:
Roger that-the free market is whatever deal is made. Thanks for the other info. I still need to look up the AWB and learn more about its applications etc.
Being a bit of an older novice, is it reasonable to hope that a gun store would sell a used basic 10/22 for about $150-170?
I might choose between that or another (2nd) MN 44, but have never had a semi-auto in .22.
About $170 would cover a shipped MN 44 plus one spam can of Bulgarian ammo.

If not, new ones are not that much more. I'm biased towards .22s but you can still shoot a lot for relatively little.

Thanks .22 Guy.
For many of us, the only thing cheaper than x54R surplus is .22.
But the really cheap 5.45x39 at Samco for the AK-74 appears to be corrosive.

| Confused about the 10/22
Saturday I picked up a 10/22 for $189 plus the (G.I.) Joes' store gives out a Tasco scope for free as a "deal/sale". Went shooting, a hoot!

I finally realized the Buckhorn sights were more accurate than the 30.00 tasco-3x9 I had on it. I don't expect the platform to work beyond the factory intended.

Mine was free. A buddy dropped it off Friday. It's a stainless carbine model. It has a Bushnell Sharpshooter scope on it. I haven't fired it yet.

Okay, I'm fairly new to this forum, so please understand I don't want to make you guys feel bad or anything here.
My 10/22 is at least 20 years old, more like 25. I got it when a local discount store was going out of business and selling things at continually reduced prices until the store was empty. I paid $50 for a new walnut stocked carbine with barrel band. I then went to a gun show and picked up a steel tubed 4x "TV" view scope, a Weaver, I think, for $10. Gun and scope are still together, still shoot better than I can, but together we have accounted for assorted crows, groundhogs, squirrels, blackbirds, racoons and other pests, not to mention totally devastating the local tin can population. I have the original box for the gun, and the scope is still absolutely clear. Not for sale!
Regarding auction pricing -- around here, whether or not a gun purchased at auction needs to have paperwork filled out depends on the location of the auction. If it is at the residence of the seller, it's considered a private sale and you just pay the man and walk out with the gun, handguns included if you are 21 or older. If it is at a different location, you need to fill out the papers like at a store.
People hereabouts tend to pay extra for guns at residential auctions so they can have it set back "just in case the anti's win next time". The Amish will tend to pay more than store price due to the time and/or expense they need to invest to get to a store that has a particular gun they want.

What's the deal?? Why pay $80+ over list for it?? Why not just buy it from Wal-mart?? |
Those stocks are "special"
