[quote=Seabeescotty;558293]If them idjits in the Pentagon had any sense, they'd have themselves another brigade or two, Of folks who don't need nothing but a refresher, to get back into the scheme of things. I don't understand why they are so worried about us old guys dying, yet send green youngsters over without a second thought.[/quote What frosts me Scotty is that they don't think we can do anything any more. I might not be able to charge up a hill (former smoker) but I can still shoot and when I not needed to do that I can drive a truck, cook a meal, lots of stuff I've learned to do in 65 years that might be useful; but NO, you're TOO OLD!! BULL HOCKEY. Things keep on going the way they are, we'll mayhaps get our chance right here at home instead of going half way round the world. They will come to us. That would be allright, I'd rather bleed on American soil anyway. Snuffy (private in the old farts brigade)

I don't know if you gentlemen are aware, but KBR is hiring. Put your actions where your mouths are..... can I expect to see you over here helping us in the near future?? Civilian support (truck drivers, cooks, laundry, electricians, plumbers, HVAC...etc) has been outsourced to free up soldiers who can "charge the hill". Without the contract support over here, we wouldn't be half as "effective" as they say we are. If any of you do follow through, let me know.... I'll meet every single one of you at the airfield with a hearty handshake and a THANK YOU! edit - i just realized this might be taken as a "put up or shut up...." Most definitely NOT my intention. Sorry if it offends anyone. Last edited by HARDERTR; 07-10-2008 at 09:12 AM. |

Snuffy, I love your Old Farts Brigade. I want to be a member. I'll be most proud to serve with all you G&G old farts. However, the Government will have to issue me a rifle, pistol, and ammo as personal circumstances have required me to sell all my personal guns. Lee's post #38 about having a Very Good life in this great Country and, if necessary, would rather die for America's freedom than any other way death might take me sums it up. I'm too old to run but I will dang sure fight, and I can shoot. HOORAY for the "Old Fart's Brigade.

Harder, T.R. Who is KBR and would they hire a 70 year old? If so, I might see you there.I would prefer serving on the boarder here as I am somewhat familiar with the area but I would be proud to serve where sent.

Well, those of us retired zoomies who are double-dippin' at the government trough working for the military call ourselves the "Air Farts." So the Old Farts Brigade sounds like a heckuva idea... Sure! Put me on a roof or a hilltop somewhere with something .30 cal or larger, binoculars and a couple of hand grenades. I won't run because I can't run, but I can shoot, fight and die with the best of them. The folks who blow themselves up usually aren't all that swuft... At least, us old vets know we're not trying to get ourselves into paradise - we're trying to keep the paradise we have available to our loved ones.

| KBR = Kellogg, Brown & Root. (Halliburton) Cheney's mob. Don't know what their cut off age is, if any, depends on whether you have the skills sets they require or not. I worked for them a few years ago and some of the guys were well up in their sixties anyway.

Harder, I tried that route, and hit the same wall. If you're broke, they don't want you. And yes, it did sound a bit like "put up, or shut up", but that's okay. Us old farts are frustrated, and would do anything, to serve this country again! It's like having our hands tied behind our backs, all over again. But if the bad guys come over here, we'll have a field day! This is one country they don't want to invade, because we will defend it to the end!

they say whenyou reach the 50's60's you need to retire and that you really can't do much ina productive society . what about the age of the presidend's?? how old are they ? i know they for sure ain't in their 40's so if you can run a counrty at that age why not be able to defend the country at that age??

some of you might get mad at my statement but here it goes. i never served in the military and i for sure don't believe in this war but if they would take a disabled person i would gladly take the place of one of them younger guys just so he could come home to his kids and live a long life . i'm 39 and disabled i can't do much anymore i can shoot a gun striaght though. . it just seems they coul;d raise the enlistment age up to 21 to me if the counrty thinks your not responsible enough to buy a beer or hand gun at any age under 21 what makes them kids under 21 responsible enough to go and fight for a country that really doesn't give them the respect they really deserve. my son graduated high school this year he only had to go to two classes and he would be able to leave at 10.00 in the mornin plus he only had to go to school a half a year too. well hen it came time to graduate they told us he couldn't walk across the stage and get his diploma . when we asked why not they said he didn't go a full year and he only had to take a few classes so the only way he could walk on the stage with the rest of his classmates was if he joined the military or if he has already joined and would wear his uniform. well that pissed us off and after a lot of phone calls and ticin people off my son walked across the stage with the rest of his friends.

Ladies and gentlemen, although science fiction is outside the usual reading matter of most of the habitues of G&G, make an exception and read Robert A. Heinlein's Starship Troopers. (Do NOT watch the movie; it's barely related to the book. The movie stinks. Paul Verhoven, the director, deliberately and with malice aforethought changed the message Heinlein makes about military service.) The book was written in 1960, won the Hugo Award (the science fiction world's Oscar) as Best Novel, has been translated into 24 languages I know of, and has never been out of print. I think you'll like what Heinlein has to say. On the subject of the G&G Battalion: during the American Revolution outfits like Morgan's Rifles terrified the British regulars because they could blow the balls off a horsefly at 100 meters. During the Civil War I seem to recall there were two entire Union regiments of sharpshooters, so called not merely because they could hit what they pointed at, but because they were equipped with Sharps rifles, some of them scoped. Mostly they were used as skirmishers or scouts at the point of advance, so they could take the enemy under accurate fire at ranges too long for rifled muskets. They made the lives of the advance guard and the command groups of the Rebel army miserable. Given the way we shoot, and what we shoot, the thought occurs to me the G&G Battalion could make life nasty, brutish and short for illegal border crossers. Some few of us might be seconded to the Army or the Corps for sniper work in Afghanistan, too. What a shame the gummint does not accept volunteer regiments any more. |

I ain't likely to run from anything so just put me on the Border to stop the flow. If Uncle Sugar will pickup my Prescription bills it'd be a good deal for me.

We're all dreamin'! Them idjits up there think they're smarter than everyone else, and decided we can't perform in a productive manner, because we're too old, or too broke down. If they would simply put a unit of old volunteers together, and try it, they would be mighty surprised! All of us who served before know what the job is all about! It's to make the other poor fool die for HIS beliefs, and send him wherever he wants to go. I believe we, as a unit of old slow guys, could do our share to accomplish that very goal. But they (DC) think it's cheaper to send young people to war. We are considered a liability. They can kiss rosie, as far as I'm concerned!

I'm in. Where do I sign up? I have much to give at 50. Try to invade this nation and we'll show you a thing or two about who we are. When you're this old, you have not much more to lose. Hoowah! |

Hardertr, it did sound a little like put up or shut up and I'm not offended. However, having said that, let me clear something up. I would go FOR MY COUNTRY in a New York minute but not to make some company even richer than they are. I've lived too long to sell out just because it's the highest bidder. I am a veteran and having served would serve again. I have no interest in working overseas and our conversation was not about that. It was about supporting your country and what you believe. Sorry if I have offended you. Snuffy

No one will ever try to invade this ole country. Not with all of us old and creaky veterans behind every tree and bush.. And that my friends is what the 2nd amendment is all about. It keeps us free from tyranny from other countries and from our own, (hopefully).. No one would dare to invade knowing that there are so many armed citizens and veterans willing to take a life and to give a life defending this glorius contry. ![]() ![]() |
