The best all 'round surplus rifle

In you opinion, what is the best all around surplus rifle as far as accuracy and knock-down?

What is the most powerful at at what distance?

No Doubt..................Lee Enfield!

Accurate at up to 600 yards, maybe more. Rate of fire up to around 38 aimed shots per minute!

1903 Springfield, It is a .30-06. Carlos Hathcock had a confirmed killed a NVA General using a Winchester Pre-64 mod.70 in 30-06. The rifle is different the round is the same.

"A North Vietnamese general was the target, and the man died when a bullet fired by Carlos struck him from a range of 800 yards"

Marine Corps Sniper Carlos N. Hathcock II

I vote swiss k-31. Highly accurate and i can chamber rounds alot faster with the straight pull than any other bolt gun i've handled. There only down fall is low magazine capacity compared to enfields.

The 7.5swiss is a very powerful round. I've been shooting mine a good amount lately and it is amazing the penetration of the 7.5swiss has when shooting the surplus gp11.

1917 Enfield by either Winchester or

Remington. I had one by Winchester long ago. The flip up rear sight
really did work at various long range distances.

Probably any of the WWII wooden guns. Nagant's ,K-31's, 8mm Mausers, Springfield 03's, Garands, FN's, Enfield SMLEs, and P-14s or US M-1917s etc... They are roughly balisticaly the same. Pick the one that floats your boat. and is affordable.

My most accurate rifle is my US M-1917 for long ranges, in close my M1A is, although is is a close 3rd my Garand 2nd and the 03 and 03A3 tie at number 4.

My AR-10 would be my first choice if I had to take just one gun. I had a SMLE 303 that was comparable with the Garand, just plain didn't like it. I'm looking for two rifles an Ishapore SMLE and a Mauser rebarreled to 308 Win. by the Israelis in the 50's
