9 foot rattler

97 Lb. Rattler - Believe It Or Not - General Humor & Off Topic - The Cast Bullet Association Inc. Forum

If I had walked up on this thing there would have been a brown streak from Kansas to GA.

So lets have some fun with it. Can anybody identify the buildings in the background? Where they are located?

There's no way that guy could hold that snake out the way he is if it weighed 97 pounds. I don't think that snake-grabber-domaflotchie, thing-a-ma-jigger could handle 97 lbs., either. It's still a big Western Diamondback Rattlesnake. That thing could put the "hurtin" on you!

I've seen some huge rattlesnakes in the north Georgia woods. Once killed a 6 ft. timber rattler while deer hunting there. I doubt that snake is 97lbs.

If it is indeed determined to be a legit photo and story, can one imagine the strike force of being hit by this creature, and the amount of venon being injected into a persons system? Hmmm, where are the fangs photos?

Back in 1969, I drove on a back road outside of a small town in Arizona, trying to save some mileage. Many of the interstate routes today were not built yet. Route 66 was the only main choice back in those days, in most states. While on this back road...about a (90) mile or so stretch...My wife and I saw a huge (what appeared to be) rattlesnake crossing the asphalt (2) lane road, about a quarter of a mile ahead. Could have been a king snake, too...I don't know. The snake appeared to be stretched one half the length of the two lane road width we were driving on, and appeared huge in diameter. I was driving an old 1955 Chevy pickup, loaded down, on our way to Michigan. I sped up to where the alledged rattler crossed the road, but he apparently disappeared into the brush, before I arrived at his location. I stopped, but I did not go into the brush to check him out, miles from nowhere, and possibly getting bitten. I still wonder today just how long this snake was, and if it was a rattler? This photo reminds me of that incident.

I killed that snakes little brother at work the other day. It was mybe 18 inches long and not on the fight so I just stomped on it's head, freaked the secretary out big time. It was close to the smoke break patio. So when I see her on a smoke break I act like I am looking around for another snake.

I would have heart failure if I stumbled up on a rattler that big ! It would be hard to get one that big off your leg.

Sure he can, if he had Wheaties for breakfast. Or maybe he has some Viagra left in his system from the night before? and it's still giving him some vigor? lol

And the link to snopes.com Billy included in his post says the story is undetermined. But after watching the show, Monster Quest, I don't doubt it. But there are also some photo shopped pictures out there...

+1 yeah, and what if his arms were locked like that, or he had a bunch of adrenalin pumping or something like that.

I can't say for sure, but the terrain and the buildings definitely look like the area around Amarillo. I used to spend a lot of time in that area and there are dozens of those natural gas pumping stations in the area.

Here in Colorado, we've had more rattlers this year than ever before. My brothers and I have killed 12 so far this summer on the farm. Been close to being bitten a few times. Bulls and other snakes are fine but I've got a .38 snubby with CCI shotshells in my pocket just waiting for the next rattler to dare show his head.

I used to have to attend a railroad safety class every year, and the instructor always had a photo of this humongous rattlesnake caught near a railroad down south somewhere. Quite a bit bigger than this one. Seeing a rattler that big would be bad enough, but imagine seeing one coiled and ready to strike! That would be a frightful pile o' snake. But they taste like chicken.....
