My 10/22 is barely recognizable, having a choate pistol grip stock and Simmons scope on high rise rings. But my M1 Garand has just what it came with... Except for a varnished stock.

I keep it simple.

The only thing I splurge some on is my stash of ammo. I wanted something decent and reliable if I every need to 'dispose of' a few thousand rounds.

I have scoped a couple of rifles but it makes no sense to me to put a $300 + scope on a $150 SKS.

But, if someone else wants to go for it then let 'em have at it.

If I had a good Sako or new CZ rifle then it would be different.

I will sometimes up-grade on sights if the ones that are on the gun are really crappy. I don't like anything that relies on batteries or electronics to work. A simple flashlight mounted on a shotgun is ok,as are night sights. For a special purpose weapon I think a scope is a good. For a battle rifle, peep sights. For a combat handgun, good fixed sights.

I like fixed sites on a handgun as well. And I've never found a more accurate iron site than the simple one on my Savage 111G.

Mark... I wasn't sounding grumpy. "K.I.S.S.' literally stands for "Keep It Simple, Stupid."

It depends on the gun for me. My "home defense" shotgun is tricked out with all the goodies (folding PG stock, 8-round mag tube, under-barrel light, etc), but my hunting shotgun is just as it left the Remington factory. My milsurps are generally in as-issued state, though cleaned up. My 1911 sports a better grip, but is otherwise as Mr. Browning intended it to be.

I like to have a few toys that are above and beyond general issue. However, when it comes to rifles, I will not have one without iron sights. They are the basic necessity.

Simple, except I've got trijicon sights on a couple of Sigs & changed grips on a couple of handguns & put an ambi-safety on the Bushmaster cause I shoot rifles left handed.

Except for a red dot on the Ruger .45 LC and the scope on the SKS, all are original. I dont think the red dot helps me any but the scope helps. Next time I have to get my prescription for stronger glasses, I just might scope a few more rifles.

I don't install everything that is available but I like to upgrade a lot.
Special interest in scopes w/see thru bases (all long guns), and sights (laser & tritium) whenever available for the model in question

For the combat S/G, folding stock with pistol grip at both ends with ammo carriers at sling, receiver and stock. (weights a ton but you got plenty of ammo) and you may want to add 1 or 2 bandoliers LOL

Rifle = scope w/see thru base.

Handguns, no scopes or red dots and depends on the use:
1) precision shooting, tricked to the max that my wallet permits.
2) personal defence, special personal setup based on personal testing of critical parts.
