New Model Super Black Hawk in 44 Mag

Just purchased a New Model Super Black Hawk SS. Any body got any advice for me as far as shooting accuracy and what I should expect. Or any thing else.

Smile Rugers

DKA1: Sir; a boat load of fun. Life wouldn't be the same with Rugers blazing away. Accuracy; Heavier bullet will shoot close to point of aim at 100yds.

Front sights are [or it seems] too tall for light weight bullets.
Adj. sights and your good to go.

I routinly shoot at the rifle 100yd range and it's fun

First, buy some hogue grips. If you have never fired a 44mag. before, get you several boxes of 44 special ammo, or downloaded 44mag. cast lead bullets. Learn how to shoot them accurately with repitition before you jump to the full power 44mag. ammo. There is going to be a lot more barrel jump and bite with the mag ammo. The hogue grips will help control the pistol after the shot, as well as helping you get a consistant "grip". Good luck, I just purchased the same pistol with 4 5/8" barrel.

The nmbh has a "plow handle" grip. It is designed to rotate upward in your hand on firing. Don't try to over control the recoil, let your elbow bend a little when you fire. It's not a 1911 your trying to hold on target for rapid fire.

Congrats

When I owned a blued one many years ago I was into handloading.
I found I had the best experience loading somewhere (about half way)between the .44 special power and the .44 mag power. If I still had my notes I would post them for you.

Anyway, good luck and good shooting and I really do recommend handloading to find your "sweet spot" in power and accuracy.

Have already ordered Hogue Grips, don't like Ruger Grips at all. When I buy a Ruger, Hogue Grips are an automatic. Been shooting .357's, but wanted something a little bigger. Thanks to everyone for the info.

Excellent choice DKA1. I have a SS new model super blackhawk with a 7 1/2" bbl and absolutely love it. Accuracy is excellent also.
