Friday night... Do you believe in UFOs?

I do... I haven't seen one yet but I've seen some stuff that later I was able to explain. What do you think?

How about Cattle mutilations?

Crop circles?

Jeri Ryan? (Wait... that one doesn't count!)

Let's have some fun with this since I know you're all starting to drink and grill up those steaks and watermelons...!

Way back in the early '80s a friend of mine was coming back from Nebraska and entered Colorado up on the north-east side of the state. He had his wife and two little girls with him in the car in the wee hours of the morning. They claimed to had seen a large object (on a moon lit night) off of the highway out over a field. They said it was hovering 10 or 20 feet above the ground and it had lights emitting from the metal off of the object. They said they observed if for quite some time and even came into a town and found the sheriff to speak to him. They said that the sheriff witnessed it too. I was an Aerospace engineering student at C.U. at the time so I was very interested. I spoke to his two girls separately about it and they casually told me the same story. There was a small bit in the newspaper and then forgotten. I think something really did happen that night...

i mutilate cows all the time....it's called cheese burgers, steaks, kabobs, and lets not forget manwich.
but truthfully, i think there is life on places other then earth.
the variety of life on earth leads me to think life exists elsewhere.
i have never been an eyewitness to anything, but the earliest histories of mankind is filled with myths of beings from other planets.
i'm not just talking about spirits and ghosts, but beings.
check out the Dogons, their "origin mythology" is filled with alot of accepted scientific theories and speak of alien beings.

I don't know what I saw but about 5:30 one morning in 74 I saw five objects waaay up that were moving way to fast to be jets. The next morning I saw them again but this time instead of going straight till they were out of sight they made a right angle turn and went straight till they were out of sight. From the time I first saw them till they were out of sight was maybe 30 seconds both times.

I believe in them. They are out there. As a youngster I heard the stories that had been passed down to The People from the Old Ones describing these beings and their flying craft.

Start a "ghost" thread"... I can tell you of at least two places I've lived in Colorado that absolutely had ghosts including some strange things that happen in my current home. But it's a nice ghost and as my teenager that sleeps in the basement says, "He's like Casper, the friendly ghost.."

Or should I just append this post to include ghosts too? I have a definite two places that I lived in that were haunted. I've lived in some old places in the Colorado area... I can share pictures... later.

Okay, lemme be a scientifically-minded downer first.

I live in Vegas, used to out to the desert as a kid and see weird lights in the sky. We'd hear about locals seeing "UFOs" for years before the B2 and F117A were made public. In retrospect, they are obviously responsible for many of the sightings. Who knows what else is being tested out there? Remember, UAVs could potentially pull maneuvers that'd black a pilot right out or kill one with no worries. Also, when people say "faster than any plane" do you think they've ever seen an SR-71 at full speed? The stated top speed is around Mach 3.3, thats a blistering 2178 mph.

We all know there are a lot of rounds that don't move that fast. Imagine seeing a plane moving faster than a speeding bullet, for real.

Hell, the X-15 hit a staggering 4519 mph in 1967.

Then remember that spacecraft hit around 25,000 mph in order to reach orbit.

Cow mutilations often have very mundane explanations. Some scavenging insects can leave surprisingly clean-looking paths as they eat.

Crop circles? How many people have to come forward and make them on camera before that one'll die?

As for the fun...life is probably pretty likely in the universe. We have a sample size of 8 planets (and several Plutoids) and 1 of the 8 has life that we're aware of. We've found a few hundred extrasolar planets already. Odds are good. Will it be more than microbes or bugs? No way to tell. Life on earth lasted a good 3 billion years without ever becoming intelligent enough to explore space or send radio signals. It might never happen on other worlds. Just bugs and fish forever.

Then of course, there's the sheer size of just the galaxy. There might be as many as 200 billion stars in this galaxy alone. That's in a galaxy about 100,000 light years across.

Now, find the life in that mess. Until we know how common it may be, we have no idea what the odds are. Remember, we're new here. We've been around maybe 100,000 years or so. Aliens, if they're out there, have had a long time to come here, go "Nope. Just scaly monsters." and leave.

Even our radio signals are, at best, 100 or so light years out, give or take. Not too far in a galaxy 1,000 times that size. 50,000 years from now our earliest signals may be halfway to the core, and not very clear.

The only spirits I believe in come in bottles. Not that I don't enjoy reading about mythology and folk tales a hell of a lot. Read some Russian folk tales sometime. Crazy stuff.

Here's a chart from the airforce to help you identify flying objects.

Well, when you have three little grandkids

and you're the designated afternoon babysitter while everyone else goes off to something fun and the three muchkins just want to bounce off the walls the arrival of a UFO ready to scoot the munchkins off for a few hours of play is something for which I have earnestly looked yet have not seen.

But hope does burn eternal in the desperate mind.

UFOs-as in unidentifiable flying objects, are very real, however, the existence of some googly eyed aliens flying around in a space ship, I'm not so sure.

You're right UFOs are real. My mom used to throw things at me all the time when I got in trouble.
