Ours refer to "specific people". Anyone under the age of 18, wandering the streets, will be stopped and questioned. I believe that was the case back when I was a kid. I'm now, 52. I have no problem with this and the only ones howling and bitching are the ones under 18!

I would catch juvies out late at night and tell them the only people out this hour of the night are milkmen, policemen and burglars. I don't see any milk truck and you sure arn't the police, so where does that leave you?

Innocent until proven guilty? Or guilty until proven innocent? Why not take them away and inter them at the local football stadium, where under some gentle waterboarding, they will confess to their crimes!

I always rode my bike around the block a few times when I was 17 around 3:00 am in the summer when school was out.

We have a curfew in Eldorado, Arkansas that works quiet well for the one's that obey the law.
It is for kids up to a certain age. If you get caught the cops call your parents or guardian.
If your caught out after 3 strikes I think the kids receive a ticket.

I agree this day and time it's not healthy to be out on the streets past Mid Night here.

Unless there is a good reason young children do not need to be out wandering around all hours of the night. I think 17 may be a little old to have to be in at 2300, I was getting home at all hours of the night/morning when I was 16. I think 15 and under should be kept in check. I live in a small city 50000 or so and when I am coming home from a night shift at 0545 or leaving for a day shift at 0500 I have seen little kids 5,6,7 coming home from 7-11 with slurpees. So what the %$%$ are kids that age doing out by themselves, chances are they have been running around all night.

Whenn my twin brother and I was 10 or so we would climb down the TV arial tower and go to the neighbor's barn and do their chores and get the cows ready for milking. Parents never knew and they wasn't told by the farmer either. We had an agreement: free work for breakfast. They knew we would not do anything wrong and we just wanted to work. Of course after we went home and back to bed our Mom always wondered why we slept until noon on certain Saturdays. Years later we told them. Dad had seen us leaving one morning and knew not to worry as he knew we were up to doing nothing wrong. It sure was great growing up with parents who trusted their kids!

In Kansas City, MO the curfew law is described briefly below:

Quote:
Parent Alert: Kansas City has a curfew law
Under Kansas City’s curfew law (Or-dinance No. 50.237), it is unlawful for any person under age 18 to loiter, wander, stroll or play in public streets, parks, public buildings, and other public places 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday and Midnight to 6 a.m. Friday through Saturday unless super-vised by an adult. The adult must have lawful authority to be at such places during the curfew hours. Parents are urged to co-operate with police if their child violates the curfew.

Oxford Thats the same law we have. You ought to see our locale news paper here.
The wanna be gang members are breaking into cars at an alarming rate here and stealing them too.
Or there damageing cars with rocks, bricks and what ever they can get there hands on.
There definatly not obeying the curfew here. And it's gotten out of hand because of the number of kids doing this.

Our city powers that be have warned residents to use extreme caution at night if they have to go out.

What to do ?

Whatever you do, don't come to the UK's big cities, it's exactly the same there. And remember, our cops aren't armed, but the kids are! Shootings and knifings amongst the under 16's is at an alarming level. It is not PC for us Brits to agree with you that the majority of these incidents happen in the same type of neighborhoods as you experience.

Wun, like others have told you, this is for minors only. Some parents aren't responsible enough to watch their kids . My kids were always home on time or I went out hunting for them! Most of us here in the "Land of the Free" do the same. When England reaches a population of 300 million, get back to me and let me know how your making out with your juvie problems.

And if you're an adult, that's a crock of you know what and I'd tell them where they could stick it if it were me. That's about the stupidest thing I've ever heard. That is if your an adult. As far as curfews for teenagers under 18 years of age, I think it's a good idea. The only ones usually out after curfew are those that are drunk, stoned, stupid or just looking for trouble in my book. And if you're one of those under 18, don;t take offense to it. I know you were out just clearing your head. But my comment was/is aimed at the gang bangers and I'm sure you aren't one of those...So p[lease, no offense intended towards you. And I only said it because where I live, the only ones out late are as I mentioned...

im a minor ,16, we do have alot of dumb people in my town, attica ohio, and i understand that the cop was just doin his job and he understood what i was doing so it all turned out ok,

I've had to pick my parents up at 1 AM at the airport, I used to have to pick my dad up at midnight every night, I've been sent to the store in the wee hours of the morning, I've been to football/hockey games that would put me past most of these curfew laws, we have a baseball game that starts at 10:30 PM every year here, and I've never gotten into any trouble. I've never even had an encounter with an on duty police officer except when i was like 5 shooting cars with my squirt gun(it was Illinois)

the only curfew law locally is North Pole city law, but I don't even know what it is, I look 18

i see the point of keeping hoodlems and such off the street, but police should have to use common sense that if you going home and are very close then there should be no problem at all. some people just cant understand the concept of exeptions.

I don't like the idea of it much, but i don't have a bunch of hoodlums walking my streets so maybe it's working.
