It's the law: No sagging pants in Chicago suburb...

LYNWOOD, Ill. - Be careful if you have saggy pants in the south Chicago suburb of Lynwood. Village leaders have passed an ordinance that would levy $25 fines against anyone showing three inches or more of their underwear in public.

If people actually knew the origin of sagging pants and what it means they wouldn't do it. I believe it initially started in mens prisons. The inmates who were willing to uh...receive another inmate sagged their pants.

What's a real shame is that we have to pass a law, in the first place!

I think it looks stupid but for most kids it's just a style. Just like back in the day when we decided to grow our hair out and our parents thought we looked like girls.

As I am sure we will all agree, wearing your pants that way is probably not very comfortable, but mostly just looks really really stupid. But each generation has is pop culture and clothing fads that you folks all did when you were younger. That being said, no matter how dumb it looks, how dare anyone make a law that says you can't look stupid by how you wear your clothing, as long as is is not public nudity!! To me that is a direct violation of freedom! If you want to look like an idiot or a gangster or a convict that I feel it is your right! to do so! Now when they tell you what to wear in schools I think is a different story since it is a place of education, and they all should wear uniforms anyway since it's is about learning and not a fashion show. Plus with gangs wearing certain colors is can be a student safety issue, but in public out on the streets...you should be able to wear whatever you want no matter how stupid it looks to everyone else. How can you be "free" and not be able to wear sagging pants?

Because, I don't want to see your butt-crack or your underwear! I should be able to go to the mall with my kids and grandkids without being exposed to offensive behavior. I can't believe your "litmus test" for "freedom" involves this behavior!

If they make the gangsters pull up their pants, they'll be harder to catch! I heard the police had got this fad going, so the perps would trip over their britches, and be easy to catch!

Passing fashion laws (as actual laws), IMHO, is pretty damned silly--especially when we face real issues as a nation. Why not ban fat guys in speedos while we're at it ? This is a job for parents. If someone wants to look silly anyway, well that's their problem.

If they pass a law against plaid wool pants, I'm going to scoff at it !

Not sure what exactly what you mean by that, but it sounds like an unnecessary personal attack either way. So I will humbly ignor it and address the fine point that TXplt makes..if folks want to look stupid than I believe it is their personal right. If you find something offensive then don't look at it, heavy folks in tight clothing might not look pretty to some either, or how about your kids and grandkids seeing all the inappropriately dressed younger females at the mall, should that be banned as well, and should it be against the law to just plain wear something that just does not work on you? What is offensive to you is not to others. If you don't want to see behavior that may offend you or your loved ones, than do not expose yourself or them to environments at which such things take place. Oh, and all the plumbers should be jailed as well then right? Txplt is right, this is a job for parents and the individuals, not lawmakers that have nothing better to do with the responsibilities that have been bestowed upon them.

Seeing underwear, or the hint of a butt crack is not nekkid, and being nekkid in public is justly against the law everywhere I think. So if pants halfway down the butt should be a criminal offense, then the way ladies dress these days show be brought to congress right away.

It's things like that that slowly grind away at our freedoms, it's no different then not being able to say merry christmas because you might offend someone. People really need to worry about them selves and not what everyone else is wearing, or how they might offer salutations and the such. Don't be so uptight.

As time goes on, what is acceptable in society changes, some accept and some don't. but either way it's going to happen.

I was trying to make a joke, about gangsters falling over their britches, not advocating more stupid PC laws. If a person wants to go in public, looking liike an idiot, more power to 'em! Actually, I have had some good laffs, at the stupidity some folks show in public. I saw a fella, one time, in Hollyweird, with his like done like a rainbow cockatoo crest. I was stuck at a red light, and was laughing so hard, he ducked his head, and ran off down the street. Sometimes, people wake up at the strangest times, and realize how foolish they look, and it prob'ly does more good, than another dumb law. Nuff said!

I have seen them with their pants all the way down to their knees so that they have to take little tiny steps, just today I saw one with his pants so low as to expose all over their undies which was printed like the Union Jack, pathetic imo.

Ahhhhh... Roadie! Another Vegas person. I lived in Vegas for 15 years (1990 - 2005) with a two year break from my marriage... but to get to my point. In Vegas you see everything and become very tolerant of the weird and wild. Some of these fine folks are not from such a city of the Vegas type and I understand where they are coming from. I personally enjoy the slutty look of some females at the mall. I also snicker at the boys that do what they think is cool. It's all part of our "evolving" (or de-evolving [DEVO]) society.

Peace!

Well, I don't think that way because of the city I live in, being a former Vegas resident you must know that few are from there. I come from a small town in rural PA of about 1200 folks, so I was brought up with a small town way of thinking. I totally understand where these fine folks are coming from, I just don't agree with it.
