cleaning issues with 22/45 pistol

i cleaned my 22/45 about 3 times already, but this time it seems i cant get it together. i got the gun together all the way except when i pull the bolt back and will feel really tight and it wont go forward unless i give it a little tap forward. also i cant seem to get the mainspring housing back out of the gun. anyone have the same issue? its really bothering me since ive taken the gun apart before and had no problems.

Take it back apart and reassemble it. Only thing I can suggest seeing as how you've done it before and it's never done or felt like it does this time. So take it back apart and put it back together. Make sure everything is there and do it again and see? Good Luck.

This site well help you on assembly. The 22/45 is a pita some times. I have worked on dozens of them and still have troubles at times.

The pawl is probably not hanging down. With the mainspring out and the bolt in, hold the back end op over your head and look up into the slot. The pawl should be hanging down and swinging freely. Carefully insert the mainspring making sure the pawl goes into the detent.

I had difficulty re-assembling my MK3, but eventually got it all back together. I remember that the postion of the hammer (which had to be moved by gravity) was important to get things back into place, and that the mainspring rod had to fit into the hammer just so. The sequence of doing things by the directions was important. It was also a tight fit the first couple of times to get the top strap pin back in. You might try moving the gun while you try to back the mainspring back out, or go to someone familiar with the gun and show it to him/her.

To be honest, I don't field strip my ruger much anymore--I just spray with Break Free and occasionally clean with degreaser all while intact.

yea thats what i think, that i put the mainspring in the gun with the hammer still down. (cocked) if thats possible. now i just cant get it back out. the mainspring wont even swing open, it will just open enough to where the latch will come loose.

ok i called up ruger and they fully talked me through it. they said i didnt have the hammer strut lined up correctly in the mainspring as i was closing it. a female gunsmith told me exactly what was wrong and what i needed to do.
all i can think now is wow! the mk1,2,3 and 22/45 need a different design to take apart.

Glad u got it back together !!! It's a fine pistol, just a bit cantankerous to take apart and re-assemble.

Like I said, a spray of Break Free after shooting, and the occasional spray degreasing (with either the grips off or a synthetic safe degreaser) followed by re-lubing is all I've been doing lately.

Good luck !

Seems everyone has the same problem at one time or another.
I get out the directions I downloaded from Ruger each time. It's
a real trick.
