Yeah I just finished putting together that system for myself and I LOVE IT. Retired nearly all of my old ALICE gear.

I've recently started working on a disaster type BOB.
When some form of S%&* does hit the fan, people tend to work more together than fight each other, its the people without any supplies and ammunition that will be more desperate and those will be less of a threat. keep in mind that a gun with one shot pointed at you is just as dangerous as a gun with 100 shots.

Whether you are packing a bag for some type of resistance fighting, or you believe zombies will swarm your town. then by all means pack mag after mag and ill catch up to you to help watch my ass, but the most likely cause of a "bug out" would be a natural disaster and in that case there are not going to be people everywhere camping out to snipe your ass and take your gear, they just wanna get the hell out of there just like you, and survive the situation. So try to keep in mind that less is probably more, unless your going to stay in one place and dig in.

Another good thing to do since most disaster situations will probably be natural, is keep in contact and good relations with people from various geographical regions and climate situations. For example think about the people who were affected by hurricane Katrina, I had family down that way near New Orleans and they just had to transport themselves to a safer local (southern PA) with the rest of the family.
The ability to pack up and move, AND having a place to go is vital. At least thats how I look at it

I think the commercial Bug-Out-Bags are funny. Bright Orange, or Blue...just SCREAMING: "HERE! I HAVE SUPPLIES! I HAVE FOOD! I HAVE WATER! COME STEAL FROM ME!" hah

I keep some stuff, but probably not as much as I should.

I would say it depends on whether you are the kind of person that waits for help to arrive or do you strike out on your own to save yourself? You can always dump stuff if it's too heavy, or cache it. Maybe more is safer to begin with then get rid of some as you go if you need to.
