Question Whats with the xd haters?

I'm looking for my first handgun, obviously I'm new here as well. I've been to two different shops and guys behind the counter just don't have anything good to say about the xd. I ask why and they say something like, they should have stuck to the 1911 or I just don't like them. Really insightful, right? I have yet to have anyone tell me an actual reason. Is it just an elitist thing or what? Any "actual" insight would be much appreciated. Also, does $450 sound like an okay deal on a used xd9 service model w/xd gear kit?

$450 Sounds about what I've seen most places. Don't worry about what guns somebody else hates. It only matters as long as you like it. People are going to hate every gun there is on the market. Eh, that's just how it is.

Thanks, I'll try to keep that in mind. I think I'm set on the xd. Just wanted to make sure there wasn't some major flaw I just haven't been able to unearth while digging through this forum. (Great forum, by the way) Thanks again.

I've not really heard anything bad about them. I was thinking of picking one up myself.

I don't care what kind of gun you have or what kind of car you drive,
someone will hate it. And they most likely will have never owned that brand. And $450 is too high for a used XD9 with std. sights. I'd sell my XD9 with night sights shipped for that. Keep looking.

As far as I'm concerned anyone can carry whatever they want to. Now ask me my opinion on any subject you'll get it. You have your mind already made up and want to have a fight I'll just try to avoid you if possible but you got my opinion, that's what you wanted. I've actually fought real people under real conditions, this 'fighting' barely qualifies as such.
Not sure I follow the whole "fighting" thing. I am not looking for a fight at all, just opinions. I like the xd based purely on what I've read about it and how it felt in my hand. So if someone that has actually had to use a weapon in a situation has an opinion I am more than willing to listen. Sorry if I somehow rubbed you the wrong way. Like I said, I'm new to this whole game. Why on earth would I try to pick a fight with someone over something I know very very little about?

No matter what you do, no matter what you buy, no matter what equipment you use, someone is going to hate it, and think you are loony for using it. There are no flies on the XD, they make great carry pieces.

A little insight would've been better, no need to beat around the bush.

Well, that changes everything. Thanks.

There's a trend here to take extreme positions on subjects. I've been shot at and didn't even take it personally it was just part of the job and I expected to get shot at sometimes. I also don't much like the word hate. It's one of those gangbangers words they use to justify doing bad crap to people who likely don't deserve it. I might say that you don't agree with my carrying a Colt SAA off duty but that's a long way from hating.

The Xd is a great pistol imo. Mine has been flawless. the only thing i don't like is the trigger could be alittle smoother and lighter. But it is on par with the competition.

I've noticed that the people who told me they don't like the XD dislike polymer framed pistols in general. A Glock fan will usually recognize the merits of the XD, M&P, etc. even if they're not the preferred pistol or best fit for them. Or that there's no visual appeal, that they look chunky and too utilitarian, no "lines." C'est la vie, to each their own. If it feels right, shoots right for you and poses no safety hazard, then go ahead and get it. Everyone else's opinion be damned.

You've picked a great gun, so go with it and enjoy it. Don't worry about what other folks have to say, opinions are like armpits-everybody's got'em and all but mine stink! IAH, I don't own an XD, but I've shot several and it's on my short list of CCW contenders.

Thanks for the clarification. I follow your point and I guess I should choose my words more carefully. No disrespect intended. All that said, what is your opinion on the xd?

Good point. Now that you mention it, it seems like the couple of guys I talked with at the shops weren't big fans of Glocks, M&P, or the XD. One guy did want to sell me an HK though. To bad I could just about buy the XD and the M&P for the price of the HK.

All right Billy we know you had a bad experience with a Glock. ;-0

The XD is just another plastic pistol to me. Given a choice between a Glock or an XD, I'd take the XD. I'm looking to buy a new (to me) CCW pistol. If I can I'd like to find a H&K P7-M8, used $800. I'll probably get a Sig P225 or P220 compact. Next choice is a 1911 Commander size 9mm. Then a used S&W 439, 39, 3904, etc...

The only thing I don't like about the XD is that it is made in the Chec. Republic. and I don't like Springfield's service. I've had problems getting parts from them and a warranty repair took 6 mo.s to get a $2500 rifle repaired all it needed was a new aperature on an M1A, that they wouldn't send me

SRK7900, just wanted to first say hello and to welcome you to the G&G. I'd also again have to agree with what Midas said. If you like it is what matters and not everyone is going to like every gun. Some will like one, while others dislike it and visa versa.
I love my Glock model 35 in .40S&W. There are those who hate Glocks as well, and I could care less. pfft I have never had a problem one with mine and I didn't nor will I let anything anyone may say, change how I feel about Glocks.

So, by all means, if you're wanting an XD, go right ahead and get one. Personally, I have no experience with them, yet. I hope to someday shoot a few different models, via renting them as I suggested to you, to see if I like them and which one I'd prefer before I purchase one, if I decide to? Personally, from what I've read, seen and heard so far, there's nothing to dislike.

Just make sure you get one in the right caliber, that is right for you. Don't get one that after a short while you'd wish you'd of gotten the other one. Example, don't get the 9mm if in a week or two you'd be wished you'd of gotten the .40S&W or the .45 even. Or don't get the sub-compact and wish you wouldn't of. Maybe go somewhere that has both a store and a range and a rental program and try a few out. That is always the best way to assure you won't have any regrets.

One thing to remember, the guys behind the counter are in business. And the more money they make the better the business is. So if they can detour you from one that doesn't cost as much to one that costs a tad more, that's just what they're going to do? So if they say to you, ah,the XD is junk, just get yourself a good 1911. Depending on what brand they try and sell you, you will have paid double or more of what you would have for an XD, thus making the guy behind the counter more money... Something to keep in mind anyhow. I've talked to some that were and are as bad as car salesmen. Needless to say, I did/do the same thing that I do with those car salesmen. I walked right out the door and went to the next store.

Good luck.
