my friend did, its not advised but it can be done

he shot the deer with his rifle, went to get it, and it was still alive and coming right at him....he let the deer have it with his smith and wesson 5906....all 15 rounds

9mm will definitely kill a hog or deer withing 15-25yards easily. The deer is a breeze. Light skinned animal, about the same size as a human.

Hogs however have alot thicker hide, but the 9mm has alot of penetration.

Just use some good hollow point ammo and it will get the job done.

My uncle and dad brought home alot of bacon with 22lr.

Just shoot for the head or heart and let the lead do the rest

In two occasions I watched a 9 bounce off the head of a dog that was attacking. My cousin had to put down a dog and the same thng happened to him. Bounced right off the dogs head.

ive heard about a cop putting 3 .357 rounds in a injured cow without killing it. then someone showed up and finished it off with 1 shot. ive heard that the cop was shooting it in the neck, and also heard he was shooting it in the skull, i dont know which is true.

I would say it would come down to placement and what type of ammo just like any size gun shooting any size animal.

It wouldn't be my first choice for sure. But given the right shot and good placement I think it could do the trick. Also, I would check Game Reg's for minimum caliber allowed.

Yes it can...

Here in Louisiana on one of our local websites a guy was bragging on how he took a pop shot on a deer with his 9mm. The deer was crossing a road about 70-100 yards away. He pulled a "lucky" shot and got the deer in the neck. They had to trail it a few hundred yards. Needless to say he caught a lot of flack by doing something so stupid.

Ive also read on gunandgame about a guy killing a deer with his .40. This deer was only about 15 yrds though.

Wow!!!! 15 rounds of Hydrashok. Why not just shoot it with a Rocket Launcher? Expensive or not, I bet it was still fun.

Were you with him? Would have been fun to watch if you weren't the one being charged by a pissed off deer.

Were they full metal jacket or something. I've personally put a few hp 22 bullets in some hard headed dogs and they didn't bounce any. Dog just bounced on the ground dead.

Not saying it didn't happen, just wondering what kind of ammo. 9mm is a good penetrating pistol catridge.

My brother and I used to shoot carp with the .22lr. If the shot was an angle it would bounce off. I switched to a British .303 and him a .30-06. No more grazing off! I shot one with 6 shot in a 12 ga too and watched it swim away.

A guy I work with had the same experience with a 9mm. Now he shoots a 44 mag.

My FIL took many deer with a 200/.380 Enfield pistol cartridge fired in a rifle, so I imagine that the 9mmP used in a carbine or rifle would certainly take a deer or hog if you get the velocity up.

I don't believe I will experiment with small/medium class handgun bullets on live animals.Sounds sadistic to me. sam.

I agree with Sam, I would use a round more suited to the job but if it is all you have and the need arises, what choice do you have?
