So as you may remember, in our last episode, the Geo M44 had purchased a somewhat rare 1943 M44 Izzy from Cinco Grande... fer $90.
The date stamp on the receiver appeared to be a mis-strike as the 4 looked like a 1, but with a slightly longer top angle bar but still looking sorta-like 1913.
Now that I'm finally getting around to cleaning it, and on further inspection, the tang is marked... are you ready for this? 1913!!!
Not really too weird, but does show that this is probably a very early prototype salvaged/reconfigured from an 1891, or 91/10. as the "rounded receiver" has been ground down (from Hex).
Pictures to follow this weekend.

It's jest a parted out gun. So jest send it to me...A.H
I'm probably closer; no sense in spending all that postage to send it to AH. I run a rescue home for derelict Mosins, and I promise to keep it off the streets and out of trouble, if you send it to me...
Geo, you know I have your best interests at heart. I think you should really send it to me for close inspection and field testing. It would only be the proper thing to do.

Speaking of the pot calling the Mosin black! Geo, ain't a derelict harboring derelicts a dereliction? I think these off-the-streets derelicts need to be sent here to North Texas, where we rehabilitate them by liberal (conservative?) application of tough love, mineral spirits, oven cleaner and Bulgarian heavy ball...
I mean, it's touching the way these cosmolene-stained wretches flourish and become proud members of the shooting community when they receive a full measure of personal attention and a well-balanced steady diet of noncorrosive powders... They positively shine with new self-respect!
