Question first semi-auto 22

I am getting my first semi-auto 22, I dont know if it should be new or used, and I need help choosing which one I should get. The 10/22 is magazine-fed, Marlin Model 60 loads slowly, 597 has feeding issues unless using a metal magazine, a Savage Model 64 looks good. I want one that you can get headshots on squirrels, and we're on a tight budget, so it needs to be 100-150 or so. I can find a cheap scope also. Thanks for the replies!

For the price you're wanting; a Marlin 60. You can get speed loaders for it. They are overall, very good rifles and (if you get a used one) you'd have enough left over for a fairly decent scope (Bushnell 4x32)

I like the model 60SS. The Ruger is great, but I like a tubular mag for a 22.

Well since you said from $100 to $150 i would say a Marlin model 60. But if you can get the ruger 10/22. My brother has one and he LOVES it. It shoots real good.

You can often get a used or beat uo 10-22

then buy upgrades later when more money is available. A new custom target trigger
and a target barrel do wonders for this gun.

If you sit tight you can get a 10/22 for your price. Just wait for a sale. Dicks has tem on sale for 130.00. You can add accessories as you can or wish. Personally I would wait until you can afford a bit more and get a bull barreled 10/22.

i have upgraded it like crazy. but that does cost money. also, i dont think there is any rifle out there brand new except maybe a keystone crickett that you can get and a scope for under 150$

A Marlin Model 795 is practically a Model 60 with a clip. Do they perform the same?

Id say the marlin model 60, ive put atleast, probably more then 10,000 rounds thru mine, and its still as accurate as the day i bought it. Almost never jams, very rare, and it shoots better then a stock 10/22. Ive shot hundreds of ground squirrels with it, thats its main purpose. Im not knockin the 10/22 at all, but for stock performance and accuracy, the model 60 is the way to go. If u want to upgrade, go for the 10/22, there's not much after market accessories for the model 60. Both great little guns!
