She's Here And She Can Shoot!!

Got my new XDm and she's something else! Picked it up today and HAD to try it out. Stopped at a local PD that has an indoor range and hammered through 500 rounds as fast I could press the trigger. Settled down for some serious accuracy testing and can honestly say it's got the potential for sub-MOA groups at 50' with either 180-grain Winchesters or 165-grain Hornady TAP ammo. One group was measured at .542 with 5 shots at the 50-foot mark!! All this without one swab down the bore until I was finished!
The trigger was modified at Springfield as part of their Carry Package that is available and tripped the gauge at 4.5 pounds. Trigger reset is VERY short (shorter than my Glock 22) and there is absolutely no stacking or overtravel at all. Haven't taken any pics of it yet but will try tonight at the PD. Can't carry it yet, on or off-duty, as I have to officially qualify with it, but that is gonna happen as soon as I get the chief to run me through the course and I can get a duty holster for it. I'm on Blackhawk to make the Level 3 for it and they said they were tooling up for a production run as they have had a TON of requests for a holster to fit this wonderful addition to the handgun market.
I got the two-tone version and the eXtreme Tac Light is on its way to my house as we speak. It'll ride in the carrier unless I think I need it as I do not like the draw with a light mounted underneath the barrel. It has night sights so I'm not really concerned during a stop but it sure will be a HUGE plus on building searches and buisness checks when there's an open door.
Ladies and gentlemen, I hate to say it but my 15-year-old Glock has been officially outclassed at this stage. However, until I run more ammo through it the XDm will be going through my own torture test before it rides with me on my hip on duty. My Glock has well over 100,000 rounds through it and I am being conservative at that number. She's never, ever hiccuped at all and has been through just about everything a handgun could go through and survived gracefully and has been a great reassurance for me. Time will tell with this new Springifeld but I feel it's gonna be just as dependable as my Glock on and off-duty. No wonder Clint Smith switched.........

I always clean anything I get before I shoot them, especially a brand new gun. Most manufacturers use a rust inhibitor rather then a lubricant because they have no way of knowing how long it could sit before it gets sold. So shooting it without cleaning that stuff out and then giving it a proper lubrication with a good quality lubricant, is always the best thing one can do with a brand new gun. There is very little lubrication in rust inhibitors. The owners manual will probably say something about cleaning it before shooting it.

On another note, glad you got one and are happy with it. I to checked one out and could only add it to my wish/want list with the rest.

CONGRATS!

XDM is great

Glad you like your new gun. I have never had a semi-automatic pistol, and its been nearly 20 years since I had a 686 S&W Revolver. When I recently got interested, I looked at numerous guns and rented several. Then somebody at a large gun store said they just went to a three-day convention in Las Vegas where he got to shoot nearly every hand gun on the market - he highly recommended the XDM based on the barrel and features (and the 16 round magazines), along with the extras that come with it in a nice case. Well, I bought one based on his recommendation and I've fired (guessing) 250-300 rounds through it. My son and nephew have gone with me, and we all love this gun. However, I didn't have anything much to compare it to. I really liked the Glocks, but when I held the Glock next to the XDM, the Glock felt like picking up a 2" x 4" - nothing against them - I would like to own a Glock, but I really like holding and firing the XDM. I don't have much practice, but I'm very accurate with it at several different distances. I am shooting Winchester 180's at the firing range, but have it loaded with 135 grain Cor-Bon's in the locking gun vault. Again, welcome to the new group of XDM owners. We should start our own sub-group. BTW, have you heard anything about XDM's coming out in .45 caliber? I would like to get one like that. Later, B

Rumor has it they are making a .45 version and should be out next spring. Glad to hear someone else has one and enjoys it as much as I. I cannot believe I actually afforded it! Took part of my uniform allowance and my beer money for the next month or so, but it was definitely worth it.
I would like to try the Cor-Bon ammo sometime. I've shot it in the past in other calibers and it really seemed to work well and was very accurate. Right now I have mine stoked with the TAP ammo, as that's our duty ammo.
I read somewhere that the case can do double-duty and have since put my notebook computer in it and it actually works! Holds all of the other computer stuff (USB cords, flash drives, power cord and the like) as well. Someone really thought it out.
The dealer I ordered mine through said he took his son (15) to the range a while ago and said his son actually enjoyed shooting it and wants one for himself now. This kid has shot just about every handgun available, too. The dealer said he is picking up another for his wife, too.
Had a friend who had 4 686's and had all of them engraved at S&W. I got to shoot one before he passed and really liked that wheelgun. His wife has since sold them off for some ridiculously low prices. I wish I coulda got one-I really liked the one I got to shoot and it made someone a happy person, I'm sure.

Glad you like it. Sounds like the XDm is one fine gun. I have a few XD's
and someday an XDm. Don't forget those pictures. We'll be waiting.

had my first jam

I shot another 100 or so rounds through my xdm today and one of them jammed. My 12-year-old was shooting it at the time and the slide mechanism didn't close all the way. I noticed that one of the 165 gr Winchester FMJ (cheap Walmart target bullets) was jammed at 45 degrees with the point tilted up toward the sky. I dropped the magazine, opened the slide and it fell out. I finished the rest of the magazine, put the bullet back in and fired it also. I wonder what causes jams in semi-automatic pistols...of course I'm not used to those from my experience with revolvers, but I couldn't fire that many rounds that quickly either. No big deal, I guess. Just wouldn't want to have a jam at the wrong time. That is one jam for about 700-800 rounds through the gun. Later, B

You state you have a 12yr old shooting it,if it is working good for you I would suspicion weak wristing it.That is where the shooter lets the gun recoil fast and it takes the enertia or energy away from the action causing it not to go back full cycle. sam.

that makes sense

That makes sense. Actually, the day we bought it we were shooting at an indoor range and something similar happened...I forgot about that, but it was also while he was shooting it. It is too big for him, and he is very skinny. It never happens when I shoot it. And there were a couple of other guys out at the range yesterday that wanted to shoot it and it never did it with them...must be the weak wrist thing. Thanks, B

I'm jealous. I was at a gun show last weekend in hopes that I would see an XD-M and they were nowhere to be seen. I can't wait to add one to my collection. What did you end up paying for it?

I couldn't find one at the gun show yesterday either. I have three places to buy one at the moment but won't pay the asking price. Hoping to run across a deal at the show like the one I passed up a few weeks back. Still kicking myself over that deal.

I paid $699, but I think they will be less. Mine is the two-tone, and I think the all black model is slightly less.

Pics will be posted of it mid-week. It's been hectic here lately and I haven't had the time I've needed to photo it.
The black one is about $30 cheaper than the two-tone, or at least from what I've seen. Either way it is a beautiful handgun!

I got mine yesterday. I cleaned it up - it was a little dirty from the "test fire" bullet, and pretty healily lubed. I good wipe-down was all that was necessary.

Now I can't wait for a chance to get out to the range!

another tip to fix the jam in high capacity mags.if the round jammed at a 45deg angle keeping the slide partially open, i bet it was around the last 2-4 rounds left in the magazine, just take the mag apart clean it,lube it god and thake a 1200gn sandpaper and smooth the edges of the round receiver.(the plastic part at the top of the mag), that should fix the jam.
