How many rds. in 10 min. can damage a barrel?

Or does this even matter for short-distance plinking?
Have two used Minis (14 and 30), an SKS and MN 44.
Although I'm middle-aged (53), new to anything except a .22 and have never hunted, if so, it would be for feral pigs and with somebody experienced.

Will never even try longer distance target shooting. My only goal is to have fun and have some options for ( short-distance) self-defense in the long run.

On a hot day, are 30 rounds in 10-15 minutes too much with thinner-barreled Minis, but not so much with the SKS or MN 44?
If this could cause some sort of warping, how about that number or fewer, then sit in the car in front of the air-conditioner (windows up) or so for about 5 minutes on high fan? Don't want to be careless, but not too over-cautious, if both extremes can somehow be quantified.

Personally I don't think 30 rounds in 10-15 minutes is going to to any damage to the barrel; Myself & friends regularly do about 30 rounds a minute with manual Mini 14's, AR's, AK's etc. Never heard of any problems.

Not if you keep it lubed and use some quality stuff. Might I suggest this stuff. They have a video linked from this website. Watch it. It's Todd Jarrett, a professional shooter and trainer, shooting 1000 rounds out of a Para .45acp as fast as he can using this stuff.

The Best Firearm Lubricant - Gun Butter

Just get the butter, the grease isn't needed. But if you want to get it, it works for many other things besides firearms...
save you some time, here's the link to the video...

I was thinking the same thing. I have loaded a banana clip up in a mini 14 and unloaded the whole 30 rounds in about 10 seconds in the S FL heat just to reload the magazine and do it again and again. Do I ever miss my Mini 14.

That 1000 rounds in 10 min 44 sec was something to watch. Thanks for the link.

Heat

Laufer: Sir; Heat is the problem. Metal heat can and will cause concerns.

Thinner would seem to dissipate heat quicker; warp quicker=not good

Heavier barrel will hold heat longer=not good

10 minuets =600sec / 30rds = one rd. per 20sec.

15mn =900sec/ 30rds = one rd. per 30sec.

Not bad. With any break down variables beyond simple math are with consequence

Heat destroys metal. Average plinking; your firearm should be safe;

At different times barrels= heat cyclical test affect;aging metal affect; test are used by different manufactures.

For our general use. barrels are about as good as they get.

A good rule of thumb, is if you can light a cigarette off the Barrel you should back off the Trigger a Little... Any hotter, and the point of aim will start to change... YUP... 30 to 40 rounds in ten to fifteen minutes, your barely getting it hot enough for a good break-in... As you see in the Videos Below, you have a long way to go before you start abusing you Barrel...!!! YES,... I have seen Barrels Glow in the Dark... YUP...
