Bushnell 4200 Elite Tactical vs. Leupold Mark 4?

I have 2 Savages I'm going to be scoping out later this fall. An 12 F/TR and a 10 FP, both in .308. I'm looking for opinions on the Bushnell 4200 Elite Tactical, 6-24X 50MM and the Leupold Mark 4, 8.5-25X 50MM. There is a significant price difference between these 2 models, and both receive good reviews. I'd like opinions from someone who has both. My original plan was to put the Bushnell on the 10 FP, and the Leupold on the 12 F/TR. Does the Leupold excel enough to warrant the cost? I have several Leupolds that I've purchased over the years, and all have served me well, but I know Bushnell has produced some very good optics. Opinions? Bill T.

Just My opinion...Leupold is 10 times the scope the Bushnell is...
Look at the Mueller Scopes (Online) and the Eradicator series like Billy has on his Savage 10FP. They get High Marks from all their owners...I'm saving up for one Myself.

The problem with the Mueller, both Tactical and the Eradicator line, is they are all 1" tubes. If your going to shoot at 1,000 yards, or in F-Class, a 1" tube won't give you enough windage adjustment, especially with a heavy bullet. You need a 30MM tube to provide the 80 to 90 minutes of adjustment plus a 20 MOA base. The Bushnell 4200 Elite Tactical has this, as does the Leupold Mark 4, albeit at a much higher price. Bill T.

mueller's are okay, but they are in no way shape or form a good enough scope for long distance shooting( i own one, and have used a few others now). for 1000yd, i would be looking at top end leupold, bushnell 6500, or nightforce. the leupold's, and bushnell wont hold a candle to a nightforce, but it does come at a price.

For 1000 yards I use the Super Sniper Scope on my .50 BMG as it has a 30mm tube and enough windage and elevation for Most applications...

The Bushnell 6500 Elite does have everything I'm looking for, and it's priced about the same as the Mark 4 Leupold. It's just really new on the market. It has close to, if not over 80 minutes of elevation. I just with they had a Tactical version with target turrets like the Elite 4500 Tactical does. My guess is they'll come out with one next year. There is enough of a demand from the F-Class guys. They purchase a lot of hardware. Bill T.

That is yet another possibility. Have you had good luck with yours? Bill T.

If you are looking at the Leupold I would look at the Nightforce. Midway has them on sale in this months flier for $1568. Also Leupold makes a MK-4 designed for the .308 I have one on my Rem 700 with the TMR reticle. Just a thought.

I have a C&R, and get dealer pricing from Midway. The Leupold Mark 4, 8.5-25X, 50 MM runs $993.00. Nightforce doesn't drop a dime. There is no dealer price which puts it over 50% again as much. Nightforce is fine, just not worth that much more. The higher power ones run over $1,800.00. That's damn near double over the Mark 4. Which Mark 4 is designed for the .308? Bill T.

try the nightforce BR scope, under 1300, and quite capable of shooting F class and 1000yd benchrest.

What do you base this on other than opinion? Bill T.
