Thumbs down What kind of load are you guys using for your MKIII's?

Ok, I finally had a chance to shoot my MKIII at the range. Was using hollow point .22LR Remingtons (Walmart). Out of 140 or so rounds I had 12 discharges or dead shots. The range master said that brand was pretty cheap stuff (550 for 20 bucks) He recommended CCI. How good is CCI, and what kind are you using in your MKIII's?

Thanks,
J

CCI's good--I use velocitors alot and have had no problems with these or quick shocks in my gun (MKIII), You might try hosing down the pistol with degreaser (syn safe) then break free (or just break free or field stripping and cleaning) just to make sure the firing pin isn't hanging up or something. I've shot the bricks of remingtons and federals as well and, although I get an occasional misfire, have had pretty good luck overall (doesn't seem to make a difference if the "cheap stuff" or otherwise).

+1 TXplt,... Auto's like to be CLEAN... MiniMags = Reliable Break-in Performance...

Normally with a New .22 Auto you run 1000 Potent 40gr. to give the Action a Good Solid working out (working in), cleaning every 200 rounds... Then you back down and see if it runs the Cheap Crap...

WX2-131976 CCIŽ Rimfire .22 Mini Mag. LR 40 Gr. Solid 1,000 rds. $62.97 Club Price $59.82

IME, Remingtons are the WORST. The "Gold" bullets are crap. Tried them and had too many misfires, plus they are dirtier than jacketed Federals. I've put literally at least 15 bricks of Federal through my MKIII and aside from the occasional dud (probably 4 per 1,000), I've never had any problems. There was a time I had a case blow out. I've never before or since seen that in a .22 and aside from having to work it out, it didn't hurt anything. I like CCIs (that's all I shoot in my .22 mag) but for .22LR, they are too expensive for me when I can get 550 rounds of Federal for $12.00.

I use the Federal Value Pack HP's. 550 for about $13 at WM.
I tried Winchester Xpert HP's, but they didn't feed well at all.
No problems at all with the Federal.

I have had excellent results with Winchester Dynapoints. For what it is worth I have removed the Loaded Chamber Indicator after having less than perfect firing. It shoots perfectly now....

I have a MKII and have found it to be very finiky. It shoots the Remington Yellow jackets the most consistenly. It regularly sheers the extractor so I don't shoot it very often. When it is shooting it's extremely accurate. I just hate having to replace the extractor and spring every few hundred rounds.

I guess I've just been lucky with my Mk 111 Government Model. I don't ever remember having any brand not fire. Rem, Win, Fed. Not one that didn't fire and I'm not sure but I bet no more than four or five that failed to eject. I've shot probably 5 -7000 rounds through it. Federals seem to group the best for me as far as the cheap high velocity's go. CCI standard velocity for the best groups. Have had good results with Remington Target also.

I use Remm. "Golden Bullet" round nose hv copper coated. I bought a bunch of bricks of it at a discount price. I never have a problem. I have used the other stuff you mention in the bulk packs and have not had too much trouble, but I get them from Midway, not Sprawlmart. I've long had a theory about suppliers making a special Walmart-grade products to comply with WM's price requirements while making a regular grade of product for everyone else.

Anyway, CCI Minimags are very good too, if a little pricey. Also Win. Super-X are good. The Win. Wildcat without the copper coating works well too as long as the chamber and feeding ramp are not too hot. I find plain lead round can become deformed and misfeed if the gun is too hot.

I have not tried and subsonic rounds since I generally find automatics cycle best with hv.

cheap 22 bulk ammo will always burn you

I use CCI 40grain bullets. I know hollow points especially 36 grain are very popular, but The 40 grain bullet is the most accurate and will drop anything small game. I squirrel and rabbit hunt with the 40 grain with great results.

Very Interesting! Not that I doubt your theory for a minute but wonder if anyone else has any inside information or thoughts on this. I know it does go on in other industries but with something that goes boom or doesn't go boom seems to be a little risky.

Just got done burning 50 rounds through a Greenmountain bull barrel on a 10/22 that i just built. Got interesting results with different brands. Remington subsonic - tight group one misfire. CCI minimags tight group no problems. CCi blazers another tight group, no problems. CCI stingers tight group shot high, didn't always eject. Winchester wildcats not as tight as the CCI. I didn't realize that the stingers had a longer case than the others not that they were 32 grains instaed of 40, I guess that accounts for the non ejections and higher patterns. Overall CCI whooped up on the other brands.

My wife and I have been shooting Aguila standard velocity that I got from CMP. No problems. Had some trouble with Federal gold match - kept smokestacking.

When you pull the trigger and all you get is a click, it's called failed to fire or a misfire. Don't take it wrong, just thought you would want to know what to call it.
