Lightbulb Austrian Girardoni Air Rifle model of 1790

Anybody familiar with the Austrian model 1790 .47 caliber/11 millimeter rifle invented by an Italian who emigrated to Austria. An air rifle that was used by the sniper who killed one of Napoleon's Sargeants who was riding horseback with a Major (who apparently was the intended victim)...It is my understanding that soldiers caught with this rifle were hung by Napoleon's forces as war criminals :assult:

Didn't take ya long did it? Boy what a question too! I read about airguns made a long time ago but it was only a quick scan. Wish I'd read more about them, some were very powerful.

Exclamation The buttstock served double duty as an air resevoir

It held fourty rounds like a Daisy (Daisys hold alot more but the bullets are an awful lot smaller)

Lightbulb It was also silent...

which may have been why it isn't very well known at all... It would definitely be a Class 3 weapon...

Probably why we don't have them now. A .30 cal airgun with enough power to take down a deer would be sweet.
