Need opinions from you smarter than average bears.

Well I am about a month away probably from buying a new Kimber. I want to carry concealed and wear shorts a lot so small is good. I will expect to put a thousand rounds into the targets as soon as possible after purchase to become proficient with it. My questions lie in the area of my gun of choice. It is a Kimber Ultra Covert II 45. I love the size ,the fact that its a 45 ,the Crimson Trace being built in and how smooth the gun edges are for concealed carry. The size is awesome for concealing on ankle when fully clothed or in a waist pack when in shorts. I just know that this gun is not cheap but I will buy it and do not want to do so without posting for comments from people with intelligent opinions. Thanks for any and all input. One of the things swimming around in my head is during concealed carry is whether or not the barrel lenght is critical to conceal a gun. The difference between a 4 inch and 3 inch is a lot but that part of the gun is actually running along the body so is it a necesary evil to go shorter in the barrel in concealed carry?

I have an Ultra CDPII. I like the Covert and I would love to have the Crimson Trace, but I am left-handed and I need an ambidextrous safety (not an option with Crimson Trace).

My Kimber Ultra is amazingly accurate, especially for a 3 inch barrel. I do not know how good you are, but since you are wanting a carry gun and not a competition gun I think it will be plenty accurate for you.

As far as size for carry, in my opinion the smaller the better. So yes, I think a 3-inch barrel is better than a 4-inch (which is why I bought the "Ultra" CDP and not the Pro series or full size).

I love mine and I think it's pretty comfortable to carry all day.

The Ulra is great size for carry, accurate, and catches attention with envious eyes. For carry it is the "size that matters" if you are going to CC.

I to am left handed with an ultra with crimsom grips. I had to send it back for warranty work Refer to thread "An Ultra disappointing day!" on the Kimber threads. While it was there i had shop add ambi safety. it works great and is a cut down version. looks and works great, was not to expensive if i recall! Call Kimber and ask.
